I installed it jsut as the instructions state, I also added a file called 'prefs.ini' just like the instructions state HOWEVER, the program doesn't write ANYTHING to the prefs.ini Instead, it still writes to the appdata\roaming folder on the C: drive.
I was not at all happy with this. When installing, my virus scanner gave me a red flag that this was trying to modify a bunch of protected registry keys. The program says that it adds a few registry keys for preference, but my virus scanner said that this was modifying a few very important registry keys.
Yep, it uses IE as the rendering engine to keep the install/footprint of Fact200 small. The disabling of scripting and plugins averts most security issues.
oh on the homepage it says 'no frills' - cookies, activex and javascript are disabled, so obviously it uses internet explorer.. pitty , i wonder how safe it really is, it may be still worth the using..
btw: Fact200 is currently free. It generates no revenue. All sponsored links are propagated from their respective sources with no commission.
Note that the sponsored section can also be disabled from the preferences ("Show Sponsors"), so that it doesn't even show up as a collapsible section. Shrinking the sponsored section isn't saved to preferences. Disabling it it is.
I've been needing something like this for a while, but so far, everything has come up short compared to the combination of del.icou.us, google notebook, and 3x5 cards. This could be really cool.
Thanks @bitcoin -- confirmed. Updated with archive.org links.
