Hank7: If you put Autoruns and Process Explorer (also from Sysinternals) in the same folder, you can start Process Explorer from Autoruns' context menu for further information on a selected entry. [2006-06-23 19:18]
schemer: Stick with the older (pre-Microsoft) versions if you have them. The file-sizes on these newer ones are substancially larger. An EULA is included now (MS bla-bla-bla), and Google search has been replaced with... MSN search - surprised? My 2 bits. [2006-11-09 09:39]
a: ^ not to mention all sourcecode has been removed, the version i have is 333 KB, what went on to make it 1003 kb? [2007-01-22 20:33]
Idjo: An excellent program.
I improved significantly with it a very slow computer, and I'm going to use it again with other friends' slow computers (I know how to keep mine fast :-) ). [2007-07-31 15:56]
Evren: Strongly agree with Hank7
SysInternals softwares are deformed (like all other) after the purchase of ms.
Softwares are bloated and mostly started to depend on ms style system interaction.
SysInternals was a great company with great codes. Their softwares were standalone and can detect or monitor every actions which even the system itsefl cant detect (like rootkits)
Depending on apis and prefix system queries (as I guess) can cause some missed information.
And last. The annoying agreement even displays on command line usage!!!
I have clean copies (stored with hash) of most (and last) non ms versions. With saying most, I mean the most usefull and known ones.
Contact with software soft name if you want any.
Can write down here with address
Best regards [2007-12-21 03:29]
Michael Williams: I have yet to find an auto run manager that I like better than "Codestuff Starter". This anyone used Starter and this one and prefer this one? If so, I would be interested in why. [2007-12-21 13:05]
MrGutts: Yeah CodeStuff doesn't even have a website anymore.. Try Gmer or Runscanner [2008-01-16 05:03]
DeepAnger: Yes, Microsoft can transform into shit every software they touch. [2008-02-06 11:22]
st_fly: http://codestuff.tripod.com/products_starter.html [2008-02-09 17:41]
Bjorn: Microsoft didn't turn this software "into shit", as expressed here. It is still developed by the same people as before, and it still works beautifully for it's purpose, which haven't changed either. [2008-02-11 02:16]
kuihdez: this is by far the most perfect software.
very precise, very exhaustive [2008-08-09 12:31]
XP-forever-VIsta-is-Shit: "a-squared HiJackFree" is better... [2008-12-17 19:56]
Anonymous: File size is acceptable, 1.8 Mg. Useful features include; Option to view disabled entries, and to Hide Microsoft and Windows entries or just Windows entries. Lacks thorough documentation / help file, and option to to view and collapse tree while in 'Everything' tab. I use along side of CodeStuff Starter. [2009-02-12 19:38]
Ed: I've been using "Startup Control Panel" from http://www.mlin.net/ for some years now. Small footprint, no installation, works very well. [2009-04-30 06:55]
a: autoruns and process explorer are an absolute must have if you are tech-savy, and care about what is running on your machine. [2010-06-09 23:15]
a: Aside from the license bullcrap, microsoft was a good decision because now the developers have stable funds coming in to back their projects. [2010-06-09 23:20]
Shodan: There is a TRUE portable version of this app that does NOT write to the registry. It's available at: http://portableapps.com/node/13087 [2010-06-15 22:09]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
