License: FreeBSD
How to extract:
  1. Download the self-extracting EXE to a folder with no spaces in the filepath (e.g. C:\portable and not C:\portable apps)
  2. Launch UniController.exe
  3. Configure the various settings, then start the server by clicking on the "Start Apache" and "Start MySQL" buttons
Similar/alternative apps: XAMPP

The last link is a 404 because this site removes the trailing slash. Add the trailing slash to the url.

Is this project still active? There hasn`t been any updates for awhile. Nothing for the last 2 PHP7 branches. Last update was January.

It seems v8.0 is out. Due to the big version jump I did not want to update the entry without testing.

I've been using Uniform Server for a few years now and I really like it. With windows 7 there does seem to be an issue with stopping and starting the services for some reason. You can get around it by uninstalling the services through the right-click option on the tray menu icon but it won't work through the apanel web interface.
Even with that problem I am still too hooked on Uniform Server to even try anything else.

I prefer MoWeS (Modular Webserver System).

You can use MoWeS Mixer to download and choose from a whole list of application packages that will automatically install. Easy does it!
Next to this you can download and install external packages: http://www.mowesforum.chsoftware.net/topic/299/90-new-packages/

Regarding Wiki-on-a-Stick, its possible to setup XAMPP (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1069) portably and much easier:

This is absolutely the best WAMP package I used so far and is also suitable to serve as production server. Also, it is not installed, meaning, your can simply copy the folder containing all your stuff from one computer to another. GREAT!

Another difference is that Xampp is a much larger footprint than Uniserv. The full Universal server is just under 32 mb while Xampplite, their slimmed down version of Xampp, weighs in at 122 mb. Their full install is much bigger than that.

Perfect. I was looking for a portable test environment (for php/mysql mainly), but had some problems with XAMPP and other portable packages... But this, had it up and running immediately and it has just a great interface. I agree with Meter above, and besides the safety, this has just a much better and (user-)friendlier configuration panel than any package I tried before Uniform Server. Highly recommended.
