ExtMan (extension manager) manages the behavior of your computer when you launch or double-click on a file. This lets you open a text file in Notepad or you program of choice

The software can view, edit, create, and remove actions, as well as change the associated icons. You can also control if the file extension will be hidden/shown by default and whether a confirmation will be required to open it after download.

You can also choose the default action when multiple options available, the others appearing when you right-click and choose "Open With".

Backups of the registry entries to create these changes are available for one or multiple file extensions.

NOTE: Website is offline, linking to a user-provided mirror.

Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8
Writes settings to: None
Dependencies: Administrator rights
Stealth: ? Yes. Writes deutsch.dat / English.dat files to \AppData\Local\Temp, but this is still considered stealth.
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch ExtMan.exe.

Note: Program starts in German. Click on the U.S.A. flag to change the language to English.
Similar/alternative apps: Types, FileTypeMan

lautrepay said "In fact, since the program does not save settings, it does always start in German."

This seems to be confirmation of my exact statement previous regarding starting in German and having NO SETTINGS.

Re: The trick, YES I noticed how to change to English MY POINT was it ALWAYS STARTS in German. (Just in case you missed that.)

So unless someone can show me that it will save the English setting I will assume that as I surmised it is standard behavior and I am still right.

donald: the flag icon is the trick, although some of the settings never quite go fully English ("such as the Applications for this Process" search)

The program seems to always start in German, every time.
Also no settings are aparent.
