Halite is a fast and lightweight BitTorrent client supporting global/per-torrent connection/transfer rate limits, trackerless torrents, magnet links, IP filtering, minimize to tray with transfer rate summary, etc.

Quick correction: I was using the x86 version, because I want compatibility. It seems like the 86-bit version is not updated. Halite.exe still is v0.4.3

Good news- the bug in Halite version 0.4.0.3 seems to have been fixed. Halite 0.4.0.4 portable (x64) works fine for me.

I confirm that on Windows 8 x64 Halite 0.4.0.3 doesn't load GUI. However the previous version (Halite 0.4.0.2) works fine.

portable x64 here (windows 8.1 64bit): It doesn't work to me, no windows gui showed (there's the halite.exe process only in win task manager), nothing.

Halite version 0.4.0.1 has been released.

It seems that the problem with portability was a bug and it has been fixed:
"Changes from v 0.4.0 to 0.4.0.1

Please confirm that Halite 0.4.0.1 is truly portable again.

In fact I am disappointed that Halite is no longer natively portable. I contacted the developer and I hope I will get an answer about this issue.

Here's the settings I used in the INI config:

Speed of a Bittorrent client is not everything, just because it is fast, doesn't mean it plays well with the bittorrent network.

That being said, I have not found anything that indicates that it does not play nice.

But it doesn't have a scheduler or RSS monitoring, so I'll stick with uTorrent for now.

I like and use Halite, but there is one thing you need to be careful with. Halite will add a copy of the *.torrent file and a XML file for the file to [folder containing Halite.exe]\torrents\ and then leave it there even after you do a "Remove -> Torrent File" from the GUI. If you want to remove all traces of your having torrented something, you must remove these files manually.

Now uTorrent is sold to Bittorrent Inc many people will switch like I did. I get much higher speeds too , it was like utorrent was blocking some peers or something but now all goes great! This client will be beter later in the future and will pass utorrent.

There are still some issues with this client like opening a folder used with a relative path, and adding torrents with the same folder (but different content) simply don't show up. It does however seems to fully support downloading and moving using relative paths, something i still miss with utorrent or any other portable client.

Forgot to mention: If you're unsure which file to download, then you'll likely need Halite.0_3_0.x86.7z
Requires 7zip to open I think (available on this site).

So far, I haven't been able to confirm it's any faster than uTorrent. It's also much heavier than uTorrent, both in terms of file size (3 mb instead of 0.2 mb) and memory footprint: While waiting for a download to start, Halite is using between 2 and 4 mb, whereas uTorrent never exceeds 0.8 mb.
Yet, uTorrent apart, Halite is a lot smaller than the other Bittorrent clients here on portable freeware (G3 Torrent 14 mb, BitComet 22 MB...).
So, if anyone doesn't want to use uTorrent for whatever reason (closed source, some have people have hinted a dubious background), then Halite is definitely worth recommending.
