I used BitComet as the first torrent client back in the ol days.
Then uTorrent arrived, and I stuck with it for the low resource usage.

@billon
The download links for BitComet version 1.50 - "404 Not Found" (both for the archive and the installer).

Midas on 2018-05-17 14:09

Confirmed just now: https://www.bitcomet.com/en/archive/ shows links for both packages but all you get is an error for v1.50. Alternative download locations pointed to by the homepage don't work either.

@DarkShadow: v3.4.5 build 41712 seems to be the latest stable version.

robzuc on 2016-02-21 21:26

As I wrote on 2015-09-26, the original software isn't portable. I don't know why it hasn't yet been blacklisted from this website... Anyway, I tried the PortableApps version, but initially it didn't work: I had to rename first uTorrent_Downloaded.exe to uTorrent.exe in the [\uTorrentPortable\App\uTorrent] folder.

ashghost on 2017-12-24 23:19

@robzuc: see 'What is "portable"' on the "about" page: https://www.portablefreeware.com/about.php Not leaving stuff behind is not "stealth" in the parlance here, and uTorrent works fine when moving from machine to machine and saves your settings.

Such garbage software. The author is about the biggest asshole I have ever met in the development world. Seriously, if you think this is an opinion go read the issues forum. as ransom for portable mode, he's demanding people give him money. You really can't make this shit up.

I gave qbittorrent an honest try. I can't get magnet links to associate with the portable version anymore. I even tried running it in Sandboxie and manually installing a reg entry.

This app should be reported and removed from PF as it constantly spreads its files all over my computer after magnet links are associated.
IT. IS. NOT. PORTABLE. and based on what the way the dev is screaming at its users, it's becoming donation-ware.

I encourage you all to petition mods to remove this app.

MIKLO on 2018-02-25 08:51

@stisev tell us what you really think lol, I will agree this software does have some problems that don't seem to get addressed so that's why I'm passing on this. :)

Tixati is not "72MB (uncompressed)"- it is either 38 MB (x32) or 36 MB (x64).

__philippe on 2017-02-24 21:12

@billon

Thanks for your quietly updating Tixati's main entry, following the above agitation...;-)

  • "Uncompressed size": revised total footprint of relevant Win PE binaries
  • "How-to-extract": added pertinent advice to discard irrelevant Unix binaries

__philippe on 2017-02-24 23:33

@smaragdus
(Tixati is not "72MB (uncompressed)"- it is either 38 MB (x32) or 36 MB (x64).)

Quite so, strictly speaking...

BUT...

Currently, the "Uncompressed size" field is formally defined in the entry form as:
   "Total size of application files when fully unarchived/uncompressed".

We don't really want to open a whole 'nother can of worms about what exactly ought to be the appropriate scope of the "uncompressed size" field definition, with implication for every current entry in the Data Base, do we ?

...;-)
