H.264: BitDefender 8.0 says that npack.exe contains a trojan named "Trojan.Peed.Gen" . Any of you guys got the same issue with the file? [2007-02-21 08:01]
GBJ: No sign of a trojan, but this puppy does not compress as well as ASpack... [2007-02-21 08:53]
AlephX: To be honest, I have to say that the oly UPX compresses better... [2007-02-21 10:17]
Webfork: Doesn't seem to work -- I tested this program on several files and it just broke them. [2008-10-31 14:40]
Gwiz: Come on, this thing is packed full of threats!

Lyx: Thats because virus-scanners are scamware. They nowadays recognize anything which MAY someway be related to malware (i.e. a trojan hiding itself via executable compression!) as virus. I had that happen recently to me with a business client - we had Imagine (image viewer) running for years, then at some day Avira decided to classify it as a trojan, because.... it was packed with a certain executable compressor.
Virus-scanners nowadays are designed for morons who are unable to make decisions based on information - they are made for clueless people who want to be told if something is "good" or "bad", NOT "perhaps" or "maybe". [2009-11-21 03:15]

All HTML tags will be removed from your comment. URLs (http, https, ftp) will be automatically detected and hyperlinked. I reserve the right to delete irrelevant, frivolous or offensive comments. For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
