Oh - forgot - with HoeKey you also get a little panel that lists all of the hotkeys you assigned. That's really handy.

Use this app all the time, very useful and lightweight. Recommended for any simple list management. |
Splat (Simple Program Launching and Termination) allows you to build profiles that can launch or close programs and services. Supports drag-and-drop, hotkeys, process priority, and includes the ability to open specific files, folders, URLs, and even other Splat profiles. The program can aggressively close (kill) applications that may not shut down normally or add delays of time, CPU usage, or whether the previous program has closed yet.
Great for a computer startup sequence that won't slow down your computer or for switching between different separate program groups (such switching from a view all your financial programs, data, and files to all your photo/video editing tools)

I very quickly integrated this into the startup sequence on both of my main machines. Great to get multiple portable software up and running in a system-friendly way.

May want to look at that Beta version first. I remember trying it once and went back to released version. Can't remember the details of why I decided to do that. |

Hey, if you all use the installer, be careful! It has some very subtle "other" stuff bundled in there. Make sure you read every panel. "Other" stuff includes "Search Protect" and "Trovi Search" which changes your search pages and home pages. PUSH SKIP. There is another one that tries to install (but I can't get it to do it after cancelling the installation once) and you have to push "disagree" in order not to install it. |
ExifToolGUI is a tool for viewing/editing metadata inside a long list of file types including document, audio, video, image, PDF, and more. For images, the program can both view and edit metadata information such as camera/device used, settings on the device, and even map the location the picture was taken if the camera has GPS capability. The program also supports IPTC and XMP tags, has batch capability, and can import/export all tags.
For privacy (and file size), the program can remove all metadata from selected files.
The program is a front-end for the cross-platform ExifTool. It extracts the content of ExifTool.exe to a temp folder under the user's folder, along with thumbs, if enabled.

Everytime I use it, this program surprises me away with a LOT of data about files. If ever you want to try and understand the history, author, or other details about a given file, ExifTool is a great place to start. |
H2testw allows you to test storage devices for one of a variety of possible defects or errors. It is particularly useful for detecting mislabeled / fake flash memory devices, looking at the actual versus reported capacity.
Note that the author recommends backing up the content on the device before running H2testw.

AutoCompress intelligently compresses/decompresses drive content based on whether the compression will actually save space. For example, JPG and MP3 already have built-in compression, while text and spreadsheets frequently reduce to 50% or less of their original size. The program can also compress based on age or size, scanning all folders recursively under the provided folder (by default c:\).
The program can also disable compression based on the reverse criteria: since files that are already compressed take more processor power to decompress twice, this program can speed up your computer.
This program requires an NTFS-formatted drive.
