A very welcome addition. Having an available item to warn you when the system runs out of RAM seems like something Windows should have since as far back as I can remember. The situation is in some ways better and worse with the increasing use of SSD drives: better because running out of RAM isn't quite the bottleneck it once was but writing to the drive decreases drive lifespan.

More to the point, I wish I'd had this just a few weeks ago when I was working on a remarkably low-RAM system with several specialized RAM-hogging programs. I even had to stop using Adobe Acrobat in favor of SumatraPDF because it kept running out of RAM.

Thanks for posting about that.

---

Edit: Also wanted to note that I like lightweight status of the program; it's keeping under 3 megs I haven't seen it go above 0% CPU usage.

Lest we forget,
Win(XP/7/...) built-in Task Manager already provides such a serviceable, (if basic), memory usage gauge service.

Task Manager memory usage reporting was also greatly improved in Windows 8.

It's kind of a different case ...
  1. While open -- taskmgr.exe taskbar icon will only show CPU rather than memory.
  2. The Task Manager program generally uses between 1 and 2% of the processor while running. It's better to have MemInfo running all the time.
  3. There's no warning before you fall off into relying on the disk cache. A colored icon in the taskbar (like what MemInfo provides) can help you prep for that.

I'm on Win7 so someone correct me if there's a new feature to show memory usage in the taskbar.

@webfork

Considering the specific capabilities enumerated above, a standalone MemInfo is definitely the better fit for your taskbar-oriented monitoring requirements.

All the same, Win integral TaskManager can provide quite a decent dashboard for monitoring XP system performances,
and even more so for Win7, given the extended graphical reporting capabilities of Win7 built-in Resource Monitor.

Very cool -- I had no idea that was available in Win7. Thanks.

So not only does this exist but it's extremely mature. Wow.
