Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.
PeaZip is an OS-portable archiver tool (released for Windows and Linux); it supports it´s native Pea archive format (featuring compression, splitting and flexible encryption and integrity check schemes) and other mainstream formats, with special focus on handling open formats.
Full support: 001 (raw file split/join), 7z, 7zip sfx, Bzip2, Gzip, Pea, Tar, Zip; Browse/extract-only support: Z.
PeaZip doesn´t follow the Explorer-like interface paradigm; the interface is more similar to a CD/DVD-burner application, allowing the user to:
* save and restore layout of archives (input files and folders list) to speed up definition of archiving and backup operations;
* save job definition (as plain text, to be used in any script language);
* have a detailed job log after each operation;
The interface is fully skinnable (skins can be customised and saved as plain text to be re-edited as freely as possible) and uses customisable transparency.
The program doesn´t need to be installed/uninstalled, it can run from any path (even remote; a writeable path is recommended), however Windows version is released both as a standalone binary and as a fully automated installer/uninstaller package, allowing tight system integration to use PeaZip right from Explorer.
PeaZip 2.0 was released few hours ago: this release completes the evolution PeaZip user interface sustained in 1.* series and set the new starting point for UI of 2.* series; UI development was expecially focused in enhancing usability of the application under many different aspect: improved context menus, more keyoboard shortcuts, smarter default behaviours etc...
Support update: lpaq8, smzip, u3p, custom (allows arbitrary executable to be used for archiving / extraction)
Fixes:
Linux: fixed bug in launching system benchmark utility
Windows: fixed bug in opendialog and processmessages handling that on some systems may randomly cause application to crash or to remain invisible in 1.* versions
False positive issue (Windows):
Highest security level scanning with some heuristic tecniques may led some security tools to display false positive results about Windows' PeaZip packages or embedded files, expecially for paq and lpaq family; this is due in first place to executable's compression (even if legitimate and well known tecniques were used) to reduce the size of the packages.
From release 2.0 http://www.virustotal.com online service was used as reference for testing packages (as whole and disassembled as single files) with 30+ online scanners: false positive results will be submitted to the attention of providers of each scanner for analisys, hoping in a quick correction of the false positive reports.
Roadmap: 2.* series is expected to be updated to next minor version (2.1, 2.2...) every 2-3 months, unless more urgent update is needed.
