Bluestocking: as a volunteer, Emka is not getting paid for his work here and we appreciate his efforts.

Sorry Bluestocking, I would not have come across the update if the link had been broken that day. I have no idea what happened there.

@Bluestocking: And if the links weren't broken at the time that Emka updated the entry? http://mylifeasadeveloper.wordpress.com/2011/12/23/important-news/
I can assure you that the DL link was not dead at the first days of december. I downloaded Periodic Table Explorer following the link given by WinPenPack website... and it's dead today.

With all due respect, "Emka" should have checked the link before posting an update...because both the website link and the download link lead to a 404 page. I might have been able to understand this if this post were several months or even weeks old, but this supposed update was posted only two days ago!

Lastest uncompressed version 1.7.2 is 73.4 MB, Are you downloading the portable version?

Followed portablefreakers steps..
1) Deleted ADPT.exe and ADPT_Mini.exe.
2) There was no XX folder.
3) UPX'd "pt_explorer.exe" (I don't normally recommend using UPX due to AV conflicts.)

Before: 74.3 MB
After: 63.5 MB

@computerfreak, You CAN do something about HTML files..

It's called HTML Optimization! There's a tool called Absolute HTML Compressor (untested portable) that can shave off a couple MB's.

1) Go to options Uncheck "create backup"
2) Check "Compress files in a folder"
3) Select "pt_portable" or the main folder.
4) Press compress

Before: 63.5 MB
After: 54.2 MB

For images I use FastStone Photo Resizer: http://www.portablefreeware.com/launch.php?id=208

For JPGs
1) Output format: jpg
2) Add folder: pt_portable\data\images
3) Settings: Set Quality slider to between 30 - 6003AHJ_VusJGXk1LbRSY_foMSop7yIlZ7_th_9ZlkppOpCf7vyIp2v4PxtJ9bkvADZq2dbUDB0ttHddmS407HtlseIOLSIOvp03AAOqGkmtITYuhMlGWYYvHe8hmeJUWzVeUI-SzeFQ-s_G
4) Output folder: same as input folder
5) Press convert

Before: 54.2 MB
After: 49.3 MB

Continue steps 1-5 for the different types of images ( not all of them listed here)

Output JPG
Quality slider to between 30 - 60
pt_portable\data\EN\biography
pt_portable\data\EN\images\150x150

Output GIF
Compression 128 colors
pt_portable\data\EN\equations
pt_portable\data\EN\glossary
pt_portable\data\EN\images

Output BMP
Compression: RLE
Settings: 65536 Colors
pt_portable\data\EN\images\spectra
pt_portable\data\EN\images\orbitals

Evenutally I got it down to 15 MB's by OCD compression of all the different types of images, sorry for the long post.
