7-Zip Theme Manager
Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
It would be a grat idea if it worked ! ( you can use the app compactor to decompress 7zFM ). Now I understand "the little bug" of v2.0; you can also try with the icon pack of v2.1 (.NET), if it fits better ...
OR
may be I have some uxtheme.dll not so "regular", as I see a border of different color around new icon with the gui of deviant art too ...
Is the same for you?

Few things:
I edited the entry to clean it up a bit and point to 7-zip.com. However:

- Can someone verify that admin rights are necessary. guinness test doesn't mention anything about this.
- Can it be used with 7-zip portable?

Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
yes. you have to decompress 7zip portable first. see the two posts above.webfork wrote:

Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
The reason I ask is because I think someone coming to a portablefreeware.com site would want to use the theme manager to modify 7zip Portable. As I had difficulty finding out a clear procedure for doing this to add to the entry, I'm concerned that just pointing to the forums or a "discussion on usage" is really for those users who don't mind some digging. I wonder if someone would be willing to put together a step-by-step process for modifying 7zip Portable?the_watcher wrote:yes. you have to decompress 7zip portable first. see the two posts above.webfork wrote:

@webfork
These instructions are for 32-bit 7-Zip.
These instructions are for 32-bit 7-Zip.
- Download 7-Zip installer from here
- Extract the installer with 7-Zip Portable
- Launch 7-Zip Theme Manager. It will ask the path where 7-Zip is installed. Select the directory where you extracted the installer in the previous step
- Edit the icons normally. Exit 7-Zip Theme Manager when you're done
- Copy 7zFM.exe to 7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip, overwriting the old copy
- Remove the directory where you extracted the 7-Zip installer
- Done!

Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
that's a very nice sum up, SYSTEM!
the only drawback i found in the procedure, is that with every new 7zip version you have to do it again

is there a way for 64bit?
Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
BTW: A v2.1.1 is available for use with 7-Zip v9.23 alpha.
Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
It turned out that in the most recent version, 9.20 Update 3, the files are no longer compressed. Thus, you can edit the icons normally.giulia wrote:hiSYSTEM wrote:@webfork

The only abnormal step left is that 7-Zip Theme Manager will ask where 7-Zip is installed. You should select the directory 7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip64.

Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
Works form me. Windows 10, 7zTM v2.1.1 and v7z 15.12. Just run 7zTM, ignore the compatibility warning, and click "Activate Theme". Don't change SFX Icon as I read that it breaks 7zip.
Here's a tip, for anything that modifies shell extensions , like registering, uninstalling, or modding shell extension dll's that modify context menu items, kill explorer.exe before you do it and you won't have to restart or logout for changes to take effect.
What 7zTM basically does is replace image file resources in 7zFM.exe and 7z.dll. You could probably just use Resource Hacker and manually inject the theme icons yourself.
I'm using these toolbar and filetype themes:
