Ban Insosommernig from posting on apps pages
This person continually posts spam under the DSpeech app page:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1125
I've been marking his posts as spam for the past week now and it's really irritating!

It's certainly annoying but a ban is not going to fix this problem.

Comments only for members !!
Re: Ban Insosommernig from posting on apps pages
I think so too!
Re: Ban Insosommernig from posting on apps pages
I don't.
I have seen some very good comments / tips from people who just stop by to do that and DO NOT want to become members of TPFC.
I am not sure if it's doable, but maybe when a comment is marked for deletion, it will be clearly stamped for all to see (not just members) and all links will become unclickable.

Re: Ban Insosommernig from posting on apps pages
I think a lot of the non member posts are just members who failed to log in,
or older posts from before the upgrade of comments to automatically include logged in members ID.
I do not think members only will greatly reduce "useful" comments.
I do not have a problem with logging in to comment, but perhaps banning
non members from comments is a little too far.

PIE IN THE SKY IDEA????? (see below)
***********
If someone could volunteer to help Andrew who has sufficient skill/knowledge to implement such an Idea as follows I would recommend it;
Implement an IP address capture to comments system (ie:temporary association of IP to comment within a hidden database),
something that would tie an IP to a comment in such a way that some banning software could TEMPORARILY ban all specific IPs recorded from commenting anonymously If a threshold number of comments have been removed by members. (I would suggest 1 comment as threshold and 7 days as temporary Ban for Anonymous comments from that IP.)
If possible it would target IPs but would allow persons sharing that same IP to join and comment as members, and would allow them to be anonymous in the future if they did not want to join after a short wait.
**********************
I am doubtful that anyone able to implement such an idea would volunteer, if it could be done at all. But here is hoping with fingers and toes crossed.

Could probably hook into Akismet or StopForumSpam.com's APIs.
is it stealth?
Re: Ban Insosommernig from posting on apps pages
As most of the spam comments on this site would be manual things such as stopforumspam would be of limited use. As to helping Andrew add IP storage of entries that's hardly rocket science and something I am sure Andrew is more than capable of since it's just an extra field in the database.
Re: Ban Insosommernig from posting on apps pages
I also don't think that enabling comments only for members is a good option. I see how do I act in such situations: I go away. And though I'm far from certain that I'm a representative subset of internet population, I think it may become a problem.I am Baas wrote:I don't.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I have added an "IP" field in the comments table and starting capturing IP addresses for new comments.
When I have more time, I will start implementing some of the ideas posted here relating to banning comments by IP address.
