When I use Photoshop's crop tool, I can specify the target width and height (in pixels) of the cropped image. I use it to make each image 768x576 when preparing images for making a digital story. I think the feature's called 'crop to target size'.
Does anyone know of a portable image editing package that offers this feature please?
Crop to target size
IrfanView will. For multiple files use "File --> Batch Conversion/Rename... --> Set Advanced Options button". For single file editing use "Edit --> Create Custom Selection" and Crop.

Photofiltre can do this, under Image, Image size.
You can only do this one image at a time though, so for batch mode, you are probably better off with something else.

XNView can do the job.
Select the images to crop (or resize or a lot of things else) then go to the tools menu and convert. Choose the final format and compression if needed, then choose advanced operations and choose crop in the dialog box. Set up the final size in the options dialog and click launch.
You can even save a script for future use with nconvert...
