I've been using these for a few weeks now, and they are SO handy. Designed to be totally portable and stealthy.
Convey beta .98 adds custom Send To links to right-click context menu (such as apps installed on usb drive, portable drive folders, etc)

C.A.F.E. mod beta 4c. (sets up file associations to apps installed on portable drives)
The original is already in the database.
A member over at PortableApps.com has done a mod of this, and since I haven't used the original, I don't know what was modified.
If you are a C.A.F.E. user, you might want to check this version to see if it offers other useful functionality.

Both are still in beta, so probably not ready for submission to database, but you might want to give them a try.

I haven't tried that either, but like Local says, why bother with assigning files that you don't need to.
Windows fax & image viewer is often the default on most computers, I think.
The first time that CAFE sees a file-type that it hasn't associated yet, it pops up a message something like this "CAFE has not associated this type of file with a program. Do you want to associate this file type?" (don't remember the exact wording.)
I just click "NO" to let the file continue to open with the default program that was associated in Windows.
For example, my home pc is set open INI files with Notepad. The first time CAFE saw an INI file, it offered to associate the file-type for me. I could have chosen another text editor installed on my USB, but I clicked NO to let the setting remain as-is.
Does this make sense? Hope I didn't confuse you more.

i don't have admin privileges at my work com... and fireworks is set by default to open JPEGs... i guess i could use something else like ifranviewLocal wrote:The command should be rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1
But I can't get it to work either.
Why use cafe for that anyway?
It would make more sense to use cafe for your other app to open them and make Pic and fax viewer the default.
Ahh, In that case I'd recommend Fast Stone MaxView.

It's very fast with a few features but not at all bloated.
I used it to replace Windows P+F on two of my Pc's and it looks and works great.
It's piss easy to associate on cafe too =D

One way you might be able to force Windows viewer to work even without admin rights
I just tried this on my work pc without admin rights and very strict policy settings, and it works for me. I switched the default associated program for jpeg back and forth between Windows P&F viewer, IrfanView, and a little paint program on my usb.
Right-click a jpeg file, select "Open With", then "Choose Program". If the Windows Viewer appears in the displayed list, select it and check "always use the selected program to open this type of file."
If it is not in the displayed list, you could browse to find the desired exe file, but I have no clue where that particular app is located.
Give it a shot, what the heck.
