Winamp - media player

New development version out:

I don't like where the "new" Winamp is heading, but I am old and dusty.

Whoa! Took Radionomy that long to get a new release out after acquiring from the ashes of AOL. I don't count v5.8. See https://teddit.net/r/winamp/comments/as ... e/egr7i84/.joby_toss wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 9:38 am New development version out:

Looks like v5.9 is not a great release - https://nitter.it/0x5066/status/1552694428007112705. Stick with WACUP.

Re: Winamp - media player
Good to know. It does underline how there's a way to make Winamp correctly, and they're not doing it.freakazoid wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 9:37 pm Looks like v5.9 is not a great release - https://nitter.it/0x5066/status/1552694428007112705. Stick with WACUP.
I'm not that mad I guess because the team behind Winamp also developed Gnutella, WASTE, and the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS). Those were major changes in the world of freeware and I'm still seeing ancestors of all those tools today. In other words, that's coming from a very talented development team and I'm sure it's hard to get together a group that can follow it.
Still, its a little disappointing that they effectively slipped on a banana peel right out of the gate.

Re: Winamp - media player
Tested version 5.91.0.10029; file tree should look like this:
If you edit the paths.ini file with the following content:
then Winamp will save its preferences in the Settings subfolder
I couldn't find any notable registry entries (I denied file associations when asked),
but there will still be a log file saved in AppData:

Have you tested the last winamp version 5.92.0 buld 10042 ?
thanks
Re: Winamp - media player
Yes, same findings.
Re: Winamp - media player
Winamp 5.92 is portable, just not stealth.
Yes, you can make it stealth using launchers like yaP, AutoRun LWMenu or JauntePE, but I don't have ready-made configuration files for those apps.

Re: Winamp - media player
Hi joby_toss
may I ask you a safe webpages where can i download safe plugins and skins?
just because they will release a month subscriton version (a paid version)
thanks appreciate a lot
Re: Winamp - media player
Sorry, no idea, I don't use Winamp and I pretty much dislike the idea of this "modern version" of it. I'm more like a foobar2000 and XMPlay guy.
Re: Winamp - media player
hi
why don't add WACUP in the database
the changelog is amazing , and could test the even the beta portable
thanks

Re: Winamp - media player
Tested WACUP_Preview_v1_99_13_19100 x86.
The installer doesn't clean after itself, leaving many files behind even if "portable mode" is selected during the installation process. Note that I executed the installer with 0 preparation, meaning it had to download and execute "Winamp 5.666 patched" by itself.
However, once everything was over and I moved the resulted files where I wanted them, the app itself seems to be portable and stealth.
I will not add WACUP to the database nor vote for it at this time because no stable build is available (there are only pre-release builds).
