Windows Firewall Notifier (DotNET firewall utility)

After a recent debate here at TPFC, I investigated possible candidates for firewall management and I came across Windows Firewall Notifier (WFN).

Windows Firewall Notifier (WFN) extends the default Windows embedded firewall behavior, allowing to handle outgoing connections, and displaying (almost) real-time information about the current connections.

WFN is a DotNET (v2) application, requires administrator rights and integrates tightly with the system registry, as is expectable for and utility of the kind...

this is a light alternative to TinyWall..

Reliable.. and well worth the application's residue.
Especially since Windows 7' firewall allows all outgoing connections. (including connections w/ no rule)
this is a major security flaw..

with this application.. it will block all outgoing and then alert when an app. attempts to call out.
this way.. you have more control..

alternatively.. if that's too bothersome.. you can allow all outgoing and only alert for creating exceptions.

It only installs a scheduled task for itself.. not bad at all..
The only catch is.. you should not move it after the 1st launch..
make sure of location/folder before launching.
It is possible to move.. but requires additional work.

To "celebrate" the release of WFN 1.8.0, the software is now Open source and is now available on http://wfn.codeplex.com.

Windows Firewall Notifier latest release is v2.0 Alpha 12, dated 2017-03-12 (changelog and download at http://wfn.codeplex.com/releases/).

Please note that, currently, the stated DotNET minimum requirement is v4.5.2.

Site moved over to github: https://github.com/wokhansoft/WFN ... also some of the screens look really good and a beta came out a little less than a year ago. Looks pretty sharp and I'm even more interested after testing out FAB.
