Re: RightNote V2.2.0
RightNote V2.3.0 10 February 2012:
Re: RightNote V2.3.1
Tested the latest release, V2.3.1. Still leaves an empty key @ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\34CF6460
Re: RightNote V2.2.0
Anyone considering buying this should first have a look at ConnectedText, a long runner in terms of developement that gets rave reviews from its users, has a portable version, and is cheaper. Unfortunately there's no free version, only a 30 day trial...

RightNote v 2.5.2 came out back in July: http://www.bauerapps.com/RightNoteHistory.html
ConnectedText looks amazing but ... will also test this out as a note management program.Midas wrote:Anyone considering buying this should first have a look at ConnectedText
Re: RightNote

Program update: this tool has seen several updates over the past year so thought I’d post the change log for anyone who liked it initially:

- I liked it a lot at first, but had to drop it when I found out there was no way to change entry dates format to my locale (as it's reflected in exports, too). I messaged the developer but got no response whatsoever...
BTW, their changelog page still works: http://www.bauerapps.com/rightnote-release-history/.
Re: RightNote - note organizer and PIM
RightNote v3.5.5 released (changelog at http://www.bauerapps.com/rightnote-release-history/).
The problem reported in my previous post wasn't solved still, the following notwithstanding:

Re: RightNote
Pasting of URLs containing Unicode characters and opening the links from RightNote (1)
leads to this:
Pasting like (2) is ugly, unpleasant and unsatisfying.
Pasting of HTML content doesn't work like it works in similar programs.
I tested the free version of RightNote for some time and I am not satisfied with this outliner.

Re: RightNote - note organizer and PIM
Unicode handling is not RightNote's only shortcoming, I'm afraid...
- While using it for Web capture and/or bookmarking, even after extensive researching and editing of the capture templates, RightNote's rather unique feature set is severely let down by some really basic flaws:
(see image above; workarounds highlighted in maroon all caps)
- - truncation of URLs -- this can be solved by editing links in RichView/HTML capture (as displayed), but turns the feature useless if the target note type is text ("Memo");
- the internal "{date}" field always returns the 'dd MMM yyyy h:mm A' format and doesn't take any form of RTF modulation (e.g., '{date \@ "yyyy-MM-dd"}').*
*) This is quite galling as it doesn't quite adhere to any Euro standard...

Re: RightNote
@Midas
Can you recommend a good portable commercial outliner that works really well?
Are you sure? I suppose he might be from South Africa.This is quite galling as the developer is German and this doesn't even adhere to the German (or Euro, for that matter) standard...

- Doh! I didn't research it, just went with my gut feeling. You are most certainly right...

- YMMV: I have been partial to both wikidPad and Zim, but they're not really specialized outliners. MemPad is generally highly regarded. I'd name webfork as the specialist there (*passes the bucket*).
PS: How could I forget about TreeLine? This is a specialized power-horse, if you're willing to learn it... mostly silent dev, though.
