eBook Library by Sony

#1 Post by portable987 »

Hi,

I have found this excellent ebook manager and reader that is OpenSSL License and would be excellent to make portable. Unfortunately, I am having difficulty doing this as it saves the database in the My Documents folder in C drive on windows. It has a shortcut in the install directory that directs the exe towards the installation and database folders, but I cannot manipulate it to change path. It creates a new database on restart in the My Documents folder again when database folder is deleted.

I wonder if anyone would like to have a go and making it portable.

Additionally it manages music, notes and a few other things.

The following specs apply:

Name: eBook Library
Publisher: Sony Corporation
License: OpenSSL License
Version: 3.0.00.08040
File size: 12.64MB
Price: Free
Operating system: Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Download from: http://download.cnet.com/Sony-eBook-Lib ... 11158.html

Few things:

1. We generally try to avoid download.com links due to their addition of bundled adware. Does the Sony site work: http://ebookstore.sony.com/download/ ?
2. One of the users on the link you posted says "insists on starting when Reader is connected and syncing," which sounds like a much bigger problem than writing to the My Documents folder.

webfork you reply is appreciated.

Re: We generally try to avoid download.com links due to their addition of bundled adware

I apologize for posting a link.

Anyway, what I did is install the application. Copied the installed files. Uninstalled and cleaned the registry. The software worked after the process without a problem. I misstated in the previous post in terms of the saved directories. There are two of them in C drive as follows:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\kinoma

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Sony Corporation\eBook Library\Database

The software works perfectly well when both directories are deleted. It recreates them on startup of the software. However, and this is my problem, the created database is also lost.

Re: Does the Sony site work

No, it asks you to download a new version

Re: One of the users on the link you posted says "insists on starting when Reader is connected and syncing"

No, I haven't noted that because I am using it as a portable application (semi). Perhaps that behavior occurs when it is used installed.

Again, thank you for the reply. As a general ebook manager (creating and displaying cover-art) and for reading it does a better job than others I have tried. I can certainly live with it not being portable - unless someone can come up with a solution

I apologize for posting a link.
There is no specific policy about this and, in the absence of any other link, download.com will obviously have to be used.

There are other folks on the site who use portablizer tools (like JauntPE and yaP), but this is not my area of expertise.
