Flashpoint looks like an interesting way to kill a weekend (or a few) with a 650 meg downloadable file with a wide array of compatibility settings. The project is meant to back up thousands of defunct videos and games. I'm also sure there's a few good tools in the mix there.
Note that the "Infinity" version requires an Internet connection, while the "Ultimate" version does not (but it's huge). Please consider using the Torrent version from Archive.org.

Steps: Download and launch the "Infinity" self-extracting archive: https://bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/downloads/
Status: Portable (probably). My testing machine was offline so I only did a partial test, but it looks like it writes everything to preferences.json.
Screenshot - This is with the "velvet" skin enabled. Normally it's a black background.
SYSTEM also pointed me to a similar project Kahvibreak (from the Finnish for "coffee"), a collection that preserves mobile games from before the iPhone: https://bluemaxima.org/kahvibreak/ About 1 GB.

Re: Flashpoint - game and animation archive
Heh, I didn't even realize Flashpoint and Kahvibreak were from the same authors. Probably not too surprising, the projects' goals are related.

Yeah, I didn't noticed that either but it's right there in the screenshot
