Haven't seen any mention of Alternate PicView around, so here...

A simple picture viewer and manipulator. Open source (CBuilder 5).

PicView latest release is v1.710, but it doesn't seem to be natively portable; WinPenpack has it packaged as portable (X-PicView 1.700 [rev6]) at http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?view.1226.

Went through with this program a bit ... put together some notes:

Short version: Sort of a basic viewer, editor, screen capture, image conversion, icon grabber.

Pros

• Both the viewer and converter support a lot of image formats, including some I haven't seen in a while.
• It is fairly easy to use and understand, unlike a lot of graphics programs that require some work to understand.
• Icon grabber might be nice for pulling icons out for PFW entries.

Cons

• Sharpen tools especially are way behind other programs on the site I've tested. It's way behind PhotoDemon in terms of filters, also an open image viewer/editor and general tools/functionality of even old versions of PhotoScape.

Old thread update:

I came back to this and tested a few other functions:

• Includes a screencapture tool that includes autocapture that didn't work very well.
• Only captures to BMP for some reason
• Doesn't appear to support PNG, which is weird
• Icon extractor works well but only saves to .ICO

The short version is that there are a lot of other great, open tools that I've found since testing this that deserve your time above PicView.

How to make Alternate File Move portable:
- Extract the installer, the program is inside {app} folder, other folders and files can be deleted.
- Rename and put the {app} folder into the desired location.
- Before running FileMove.exe open SavePath.ini, which contains the following text:

ApplicationStorage=""

; Modify the value above to run the program from
; an USB-Stick or so...
; Set it to "" to use the local environment folders
; Relative paths are also possible

- Modify SavePath.ini according to where Alternate File Move is desired to store its data (for example- ApplicationStorage="C:\Portable Programs\Alternate File Move\Data").
- Run FileMove.exe
- Optionally, UnInstCleanup.exe and Source folder may be deleted.

In short- Alternate File Move is a very simple folder mirroring tool, similar to ICE Mirror, which is in the database as a private item (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=326), but in contrast with ICE Mirror Alternate File Move can remember the last used folders.

It looked like a simple slide generator with GIF, Flash, and AVI outputs but unfortunately not portable and a little light on features. AVI files had extremely basic compression and GIF files generated had some color issues so I didn't dig into this too far.

Status: Not portable. Writes settings to AppData.

Doesn't work with UniExtract.

First- I managed to extract 'PicView_EXESlide.exe' using the updated unofficial Universal Extractor (v1.6.1 R9)- http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/universalextractor.htm If you update your Universal Extractor files it should be able to extract this EXE file. I also managed to extract it using InnoExtractor.

Second, EXE Slide can easily be made portable:
- after the extraction you will find the program in {app} folder
- inside {app} folder there is a 'SavePath.ini' file
- open 'SavePath.ini', it contains the following text:

ApplicationStorage=""

; Modify the value above to run the program from
; an USB-Stick or so...
; Set it to "" to use the local environment folders
; Relative paths are also possible

- Modify this line- ApplicationStorage="" according to where you want EXE Slide to store its settings.
