Chrome Plus - Chromium-based browser [discontinued]

#1 Post by -.- »

http://www.chromeplus.org/

I know people know about srware's iron (another chrome verison)
but i came across chrome plus which i find better. like SR iron it removed the background communications but it also has
Currently, ChromePlus has 5 extra features:
1. Double click tab to close page.
2. Mouse Gestures
3. Super drag
4. IE tab
5. Download tools supported in context menu.
the portable verison seems to be stealth, but not sure 100% though it works when you move it between computers

Not "stealth" at all (sandboxie test), but settings are portable.
Nice alternative.

After exiting ChromePlus, I got two chrome.exes of it in the task manager that couldn't be terminated with any tool. Had to do a restart of the computer to get rid of those.

I have created my first NSIS portable wrapper :D
It is meant for the zip package not for install version.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/q1ze2nelr ... uncher).7z
just place program files inside folder labeled "Chrome" next to the ChromePlus.exe.

When first run,DO NOT select to have as default browser..duh.

Edit: I also include the nsi file so more experienced person can tell me any mistakes made :)
Edit 2: Fixed the launcher's failure to restore settings if already found on the system,
it would make a backup it just didnt restore it FFS.

I wanted to carry flash plugins with the zip/portable version and have them inside the program's folder
instead of installed on the system.I found some tips for doing this with Google Chrome.
Turns out all you need are the plugins inside a "plugins" folder next to the main exe.

This way seems to work:

1.) Download the Flash player xpi for Windows.
2) Add a .zip extension to the file.
It should now be: flashplayer-win.xpi.zip
3) Extract the contents and copy two files “flashplayer.xpt” and “NPSWF32.dll”
(It seems to work without the “flashplayer.xpt” too,but I left mine inside just in case)
4) Create a folder called "Plugins" next to chrome.exe
and place the extracted files inside.
5) Start ChromePlus and test.

or just use the plugins from FFox portable :)

Editz:The 2nd NSIS launcher I made will also remove the registry traces for the plugins as well :D

I've just watched day 1 of TSL2 last night and the live stream requested Silverlight to be installed. I'd like to have access to similar streams on the go, too.

There is some suggestions at PortableApps

I imagine if this does work you will have to be using an IE tab.
There's like 20 components,the installed program's folder is like 15mb in size.
I think you found the one NON MicroSoft website that even uses SilverLight

EDIT: I was wrong..it wont work using an IE tab but just using a normal chrome tab it does

Havent messed around removing stuff to slim it down but it
Seems to work with these files in the plugin folder:

agcore.dll
coreclr.dll
Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll
mscorlib.dll
mscorrc.dll
npctrl.dll
npctrlui.dll
Silverlight.Configuration.exe
Silverlight.ConfigurationUI.dll
slr.dll.managed_manifest
System.Core.dll
system.dll
System.Net.dll
System.Runtime.Serialization.dll
System.ServiceModel.dll
System.ServiceModel.Web.dll
System.Windows.Browser.dll
System.Windows.dll
System.Xml.dll

It also creates an app data folder and leaves a file:
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Silverlight\mssl.lck

Except for recent files history,no registry entries seem to be made.

I'd stick with Iron because most of Chrome Plus' functionality can be duplicated by using Google Chrome Extensions.
is it stealth? ;)

I have to agree,Iron is proving to be a better browser overall.
I have had many snafus with the latest update to v1.3.6 and
and extensions are too few.

ChromePlus is appealing for all the built in options you have but
with out extensions none of the chromium browsers are worth a flip.

SRW Iron just seems faster too.

Re: chrome plus / CoolNovo

#14 Post by webfork »

Old thread update: This program changed names to "CoolNovo" but appears to have ended development. The home page "www.coolnovo.com" wasn't working when I tested it. As such the defacto program home page is probably Softpedia, which lists the last update as back in 2014.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/B ... Plus.shtml

The program is one of several closed-source offshoot browsers borrowing from the Chrome code base and adding additional features to the original browser. It's unfortunate that -- if the project has really closed down -- that the modified code wasn't made available.

FTR, I used the portable Chrome Plus for a while but rapidly lost interest around the time of the CoolNovo re-branding -- the growing lack of significant distinguishing features coupled with increasing suspicion (that I can't substantiate further now) about the project management killed it for me...
