True, but I was talking in a best-case scenario; i.e. even at their best, frameworks can't be on the same level as operating systems.

@Andrew and Midas
Indeed, I think the cost was little enough that even a minor gain makes it worth it.

@billon
Perhaps a wiser approach was to take the opportunity to explain what "any harm in the change" might be. Unpleasantness won't give you much.

I don't think it's a question of harm, more don't fix what isn't broken.

As stated previously, I don't have strong feelings either way.

It's possible to spend a lot of time on the database and take some changes personally - I've definitely been there before.

Why I've had my share of "Why did I decide to do this? What was I thinking?", you can't apply it to everything or you won't move forward!

Also, there are a lot of mitigations and best practices for when you decide to do it. Weigh the costs and benefits. Be familiar with the theory and the actual application. Model first. Backups. Change production last. Go gradual. etc.

One of the best places to learn how to move forward while on sure footing (as much as possible, nothing is 100% safe) is critical industries. People who make planes, heart monitors, respirators, etc.

Only marginally related (file under "food for thought"):

A tech company [...] introduces a new product or service without fully anticipating the possibilities for abuse. Then comes an apology and vows "to do better". It’s a wash-rinse-repeat cycle that spans decades.

Where it says "abuse", read "unintended consequences"... :thinking:

Minor suggestion: maybe remove the "Win" from different versions? So instead of:

Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10

it would be

Win2K / XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10

or

2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10

It looks clearer to me.

If you have say just Win8 and Win10 support, then it comes:

Runs on: 8/10

which seems odd to me.

LOL, solid 5/7!

Maybe you can add Win once at the beginning:
Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, Wine

I added it on purpose. It is not technically correct, but it is still understandable. There will always be a Windows version before it.
