#1 Post by Ruby »

Free Alarm Clock
A free, full-featured and user-friendly alarm clock
This freeware program allows you to set as many alarms as you want. You can set one-time alarms or repeating alarms - activate only from Monday through Friday and give you a chance to sleep on the weekends.
Download the Installer and extract: The files are in the {app} subfolder; all that's really needed (for English) is the exe.

Download: http://freealarmclocksoftware.com/FreeA ... kSetup.exe
Run it from your portable USB flash drive
You can put Free Alarm Clock on a flash drive and run it directly from there. In this way, all your alarms will always be with you. Simply run the program with parameter -PORTABLE, the settings will be stored in file Data.ini.
Run the program with the -portable parameter, you can manually enter driveless paths to mp3 files.

Looks good but some things just strike a worrying chord with me. The first being who would buy a domain and hosting just for, what is, a very small and simple program? Also there's a lot of self SEO on that page. Or maybe I'm just overly paranoid these days.

@carbonize, "overly paranoid"

1. Domain and Hosting is fairly inexpensive.
2. Do a google search for 'Free Alarm Clock' and this one is listed ~6th one down, and the keywords/content in the source is
[free alarm clock, alarm clock, portable alarm clock, alarm clock freeware], so I'm not sure what "Self SEO" you're talking about.

Self referencing SEO is probably a better description which includes the domain name. Just wary as to why someone would go to such lengths to get a simple program out there. Too many years of working in security based occupations.

It not ideal, but better when Softpedia or Download.com hosts the file as they put their reputation forward when they host files.

They both do host the program, is that what you mean?

Google fail. I searched for "Free Alarm Clock 2.2" and came up with a bunch of no-name sites. Direct search on Softpedia found it.

Here's a link for the paranoid:

They are third on Google for "free alarm clock" but lower down if you add the 2.2. I guess I just found it strange that someone would go to such lengths to try and get a free program a higher listing on Google.

The "guinness green stamp" might confuse some.... Free Alarm Clock still writes (empty key) to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ComfortSoftware\FreeAC

I didn't get that empty Registry Key on my test machine.

Edit: Just tested again and still no empty key. Are you sure you tested the Portable version half way down the page?
