SARDU - bootable device creator

I noticed user wjmat Added To TPFC: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1863, but I remember talking about SARDU on more than one occasion: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 666#p21666 & http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 666#p20666.
So I edited the entry to reflect I mentioned the application and left wjmat as a submitter too (it was the least I could do )

SuggestIf you mention something, you say something about it, usually briefly.
If you suggest something, you put forward a plan or idea for someone to think about.
Re: SARDU
Version 3 final available: http://www.sarducd.it/download/SARDU_3.zip . There are now free, registered and pro versions. You may compare them at http://sardu.pro/shop.php . UEFI not supported in free-version.
I don't know if betterinstaller is still bundled with it. at least on http://www.heise.de/download/sardu-1191827.html (referring to beta5) it is warned to care about installing additional software.

Re: SARDU
The changelog mentions that SARDU 3 was rewritten from stratch. It's easily possible that SARDU 3 is no longer portable.fang-face wrote:Version 3 final available: http://www.sarducd.it/download/SARDU_3.zip . There are now free, registered and pro versions. Since I'm too lazy to test SARDU 3 myself, I didn't update the entry. I just added a note saying that we haven't tested SARDU 3 for portability.

This is just a mess...The changelog mentions that SARDU 3 was rewritten from stratch. It's easily possible that SARDU 3 is no longer portable.
- Their website lists a Creative Commons license even though that organization recommends using a software license for software. It's not open source so I'm not sure what "derivative works" could be created with this.
- Softpedia is listing it as a demo.
- They have a notice up on their site "SARDU Multiboot Creator 3 is 100% clean of virus / toolbars and other crapware" after introducing BetterInstall bundleware.
Re: SARDU
In fact there are 3 different Pro versions- Pro Basic, Pro Advanced and Pro Tech- http://www.sardu.pro/shop.php .
For me the most unacceptable is that:
For me the most unacceptable is that:
The so called 'Free' version is really just a demo so I agree with webfork that SARDU should be removed from the database. The license is valid for one year from the date of activation.
Re: SARDU
The "SOFTWARE SARDU MULTIBOOT CREATOR FREE USER LICENSE GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS" file that is included with sardu_3.exe does not say anything about activation. It does however say the following about the duration:smaragdus wrote:In fact there are 3 different Pro versions- Pro Basic, Pro Advanced and Pro Tech- http://www.sardu.pro/shop.php .

The license will have duration of one year from the date of software installation.
But what if one does not install the software?
Anyways, I quickly tested sardu v3.0.0.0... it seems to be portable and I did not find the Betterinstaller adware thing.

Re: SARDU
I think if we are agreeable that this should be removed from the public listing, could MiDoJo and/or guinness downvote this app so that it will become private?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: SARDU - bootable device creator
Thanks. If you read back through the thread, we've not had good experience with the Sardu program, but no doubt someone who enjoys the program will be glad to have a portable version.demon.devin wrote:Here's my version of Sardu Portable 3.2

Re: SARDU - bootable device creator
What do you mean had no good experience? What happened?
I absolutely adore this program. It's given me such control making boot discs and if you know what you're doing you can customize your boot disk/drive/ISO etc. manually afterwards.

If memory serves, we fast-tracked this program for addition to the database because it's fantastic. Then the additions of shareware/adware/spyware not long after we got it in. It's pretty frustrating for a freeware site to put that kind of energy into something only to have it drop off.demon.devin wrote:I absolutely adore this program. Re: SARDU - bootable device creator
Wow. That's horrible.
Re: SARDU - bootable device creator
Yeah this gets at a bunch of problems I just have no solution for.demon.devin wrote:Wow. That's horrible.
It also happened with one of the more popular programs here on the site: FFS. Other devs (like Marxio) just closed up shop after building some really exceptional tools. Ultimately if you're a developer for a popular program and you run into money problems, its a difficult argument to keep putting time/effort into something that's not helping your wallet.
If I could approach this whole project in a different way from the beginning, it would probably to treat freeware projects like charity work where developers are doing a community service. That might have changed the whole conversation.
