TreeSize Free V2.3.1

#1 Post by Lupo73 »

It is available an update for this application:
http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=36

This is the change log:

Version 2.3.1: Released on 18 May 2009
· Folders without subfolders are now expandable as well and show the files, similar to the [Files] items.
· A few minor improvements have been incorporated.

Version 2.3: Released on 22 Apr 2009
· The [Files] items in the directory tree are now expandable and show the individual files after being expanded.
· It is now possible to customize the gradient in the background of the tree in the Options menu.
· User settings are now stored in an XML file instead of the Windows registry.
· It is now possible to adjust the number of decimals of the size values in the View menu.
· TreeSize Free will now use up to 2 threads for scanning instead of 1. In the Personal Edition and the Professional Edition the number of threads is not limited and will be adjusted automatically based on the system load.
· Bugfix: When changing the sort type after a scan, subfolders of non expanded directories were not sorted correctly after expanding.
· Improved performance
· Several minor bug fixes and improvements have been incorporated.

Ugh... it creates HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JAM Software and a useless folder in %AppData%.

They wrote me that it will be removed the folder creation and that the key is only for window position. So probably the next release will be fully portable.

I have contacted TreeSize authors to improve its portability. They sent me a prerelease version 2.4.1 that may be fully portable (store also window position settings in xml file). I cannot publish it yet, but I can send it to users that desire help me with tests. Is someone interested?

Lupo its perfectly portable :)
And if you dont never utilize the "Add to context menu" option
its perfectly traceless too :D

Even if you deselect the context menu option, these reg entries remain.
(So if stealth is important just dont ever enable the context menu)

Also,if you do not have the GlobalOptions.xml file present with the Treesize.exe
it will create an appdata folder (Jam Software) and store the generated xml file there.

P.S. Thanks for sharing this Lupo,
I have been using a home made nsis wrapper for TreeSize
but I much prefer portables written by the authors.

Good! I'll contact them to ask these small fixes to portability (essentially the removing of registry entry if the context menu feature is disabled). I'm authorized to include this prerelease in my next Suite version or the final release if they will publish it before my publication.
In the meanwhile if others desire to test/use it, you can contact me and I'll send you a download link.

TreeSize developers authorized me to include the fully portable pre-release of it in the Suite. It seems to be stable, even if is not a final version.. and it can also be downloaded separately from HERE.

Someone has tested the last stable release 2.5? Can you confirm it is fully portable (as my 2.4.1 pre-release)?

Haven't tried earlier versions but the latest version (V2.5) crashes when I try to expand to level 3 and beyond.

It does not write to the registry nor does it create anything outside the application folder.

edit: If you enable the context menu option, it will save settings in %AppData%\JAM Software\TreeSize Free.

2.5 is stealth (perfectly portable) as far as I can see. Updated our database accordingly.
