how about a section where we share our best practices / workflows / workarounds
where we describe our uses for our portables in our daily computing / workflows
instances where we use 2 or more portables to solve daily computing problems
or workarounds that extend functionality of our favorite portables

the thread on how to determine if an application is portable is a perfect
example of using 2 or more portables it even includes the thought process/
reasoning for using specific portables

if we look at the regshot website there is nothing in the program description
that says you can use it for determining application portability. a good example
for a portable's extended functionality.

for myself, to extend the use of the application "Everything"
i would add keywords to empty folders inside the application folder
in this case while doing research on why my system seemed sluggish
it turned out my HD was constantly being constantly accessed by my
anti-virus trying to update itself

so i saved the site inside the process explorer folder with descriptions of
why i would use process explorer. you can see them in the picture
they are empty subdir with names like "0 hd stuttering"
then one day i searched "Everything" but i typed "hd slow" and no results
so i added another empty folder named "0 hd always accessing hd slow"

I setup a Youtube channel intending to do more explanations of portable software similar to this, but I haven't been drawn to video simply because I don't really have a good recording setup and I have a tough time producing anything that isn't very polished. This site lets me do small bits (like this post) that I can set aside or come back to later. The MorePortableFreeware blog site is covering a little of that for areas that don't quite fit on the site.

Anyway, I do welcome examples of people using portable software to solve everyday problems, especially collaboration between two programs, as tls suggests.

That said, I definitely wouldn't mind a thread on "how to X?" like

• How to losslessly crop a JPG?
  How to convert a .mpeg file?
  How to extract graphics from a bunch of PDFs?
  How to encrypt my files?

That might be interesting to help demonstrate the enormous functionality available to portable software.

Recently I needed to do something related: flip a JPEG image by 180 degrees. For that I used JPEGCrops.

It was quite simple. I opened the image in JPEGCrops, chose "no crop" from the dropdown menu, clicked the "rotate right" button twice, and finally clicked the "Crop" button.
