One developer's perspective from working on freeware

Lessons learned maintaining EdgeDeflector for Windows 10 | Ctrl blog - https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/edgedeflect ... ctive.html

Obviously this program is open source and not freeware, but I've heard similar issues. Various echoes of discussed points here include devs getting blame for a Windows bug, doing loads of tech support for something simple, and submerged SEO results (in this case page 4 of Google results for the Real Program). Also, very small programs getting loads of downloads, frustrating lack of donations, lots of feature requests from people who don't understand the program scope, and how a program can impact the technology around it (the author suggests he had a hand in killing the non-Chromium Edge project).

Interesting stuff.
