Note!
This is the last version of EditBone.
The next version is re-branded to "Text Editor Pro" and the new domain is http://texteditor.pro
Issues, feedback, and language files can be sent to info@texteditor.pro already.
Re: EditBone
Yeah I just got through discussing a similar situation with someone who works on open source projects.
I don't know what EditBone was released under (we have it listed as freeware) but it used a permissive license like MIT or BSD, it's fine for someone else to post the code to github. That said, releasing it under the same name with the same interface is a copyright violation so the original author may certainly be frustrated by that. It's certainly crap when someone doesn't give attribution for work by others.
This situation in particular is especially confusing because the listed email address on the Github page is an @editbone.com address. There's no issues page to post concerns about this situation so I'm not sure how to proceed.

Re: EditBone
The comments on the developer's main page - http://www.bonecode.com - offers some insight:
"Note! Service provider starts a transition to a new server 19.2.2017 21:30 (UTC+2).
Note! This domain will be closed after a while, the new domain is texteditor.pro. The new editor will have a code signature and installer.

Re: EditBone
As of now, there are two EditBone Github repositories -- one of them last updated in 2015-09-24 (v10.x beta), the other a week ago -- but both reference Bonecode Lasse's email as the channel to use for software matters...
Re: EditBone
EditBone has been supplanted by Text Editor Pro currently at version 1.0.0

Re: Text Editor Pro (was EditBone)
I must admit that EditBone/TextEditorPro annoys me...
It's one of the smallest and leanest 64-bit-editors with comfort features and therefore my choice. And the file comparison tool is really handy.
But:
- why does it create this unnecessary folder in %localappdata%? Ok, wrote a launcher that deletes this.
- really annoying: it does not keep font and size choice, never! Even if the changes are written to the ini (I checked it), next time it starts all is back to default (the change in the ini remains, however)... All other settings are kept, only font- and size-choice not.
- today I tried the magnifier - looks good... but that's all - because it's black, opaque black, it doesn't magnify anything.
...one can say it has personality

Re: Text Editor Pro (was EditBone)
As one of the original translators of EditBone, I had to give up on it pretty quickly due to the sheer size of the task. Not only did the workload keep increasing but several previously translated strings would require translating again due to minor interface changes... I tried to finish a new translation many times but never could manage.
EditBone/TextEditorPro does include its own translation utility, which is good, but the latest release (v3.5.0) language file is an immense 2712 lines long.
My advice for Lasse is (if he's still keen on people's collaboration with translation), to break down strings into words, so they only need translating once and updates are not required as frequently (there's a lot of redundancy inside those strings, too). Also keep the number of needed words way smaller to make the task less daunting. I don't know if any of this is feasible but otherwise voluntary translation won't be happening.

Re: Text Editor Pro (was EditBone)
I came back to Text Editor Pro again this month and was really impressed by how far it's come. There are a lot of excellent features that I've had trouble finding elsewhere, especially the duplicate text finder and (strangely) magnifying glass.
Anyway, I've done a revamp to our entry to try and embrace some of those changes.

Topic update: Text Editor Pro v28.4.3 released 2024-02-25 (changes at https://texteditor.pro/index.php?page=history).
The latest changelog includes the following:

Note! Currently, 32-bit application gives a false positive (TrojanDownloader:Win32/Upatre!ml)
in Windows Defender. I can't help this. 64-bit application is built with the exactly same
source code and it does not give a false positive.
