- There is a real sense of quality all round with Angry Birds Stella. From the title music to the characterization to the level design, Rovio have obviously invested a lot of care and attention on this project.

Game launch: Nibblers has been hard-launched*. I joined the team in August.
There isn't much you can do in a month, so the only contributions of mine in the first globally available version are bug fixes.

* Free-to-play mobile games are usually released in two stages.
In soft launch the game is available only in selected countries (never in biggest markets such as the USA) and receives only minimal marketing. In hard launch the game becomes available worldwide and starts being marketed with full force.
The primary purpose of a soft launch is to find out if the game makes enough money: if yes, it will be hard-launched; if not, it will be killed. The secondary purpose is to optimize revenue per user before the game receives a huge swath of players. All this is standard practice with F2P mobile games.

20 people is an outright massive team for a match-3 game. I suppose we're currently the largest F2P match-3 game team in the world.Keith Stuart wrote: Apparently, the priority for the development team – now up to 20 people – is to ensure a fast flow of new content.

Enlightening read. Thanks.

Agreed. I know so little about mobile development, that's some cool insight.Midas wrote:Enlightening read.
Re: I have completed my studies
Uhh. I got laid off, along with a couple hundred other employees.
(Per Finnish law, lay-offs must be preceded by "employee negotiations" which must last at least six weeks. The lay-offs, and their magnitude, have been publicly known for a couple of months. Today I then got to know that I am along those who were fired.)

I think it's quite awkward to have been posting about my career in this thread. With my employment at Rovio ending, I'll stop doing that. Consider this post the end of this thread for my part.

Re: I have completed my studies
Sorry to hear about your predicament, SYSTEM, but am quite certain you will find something better and more rewarding soon. Good luck.
Re: I have completed my studies
@SYSTEM
I wish you good luck and a better job soon.

Why? Isn't Chit-Chat exactly for such threads? Or we need another sub-forum Career/Unemployment?I think it's quite awkward to have been posting about my career in this thread. With my employment at Rovio ending, I'll stop doing that. Consider this post the end of this thread for my part.
Re: I have completed my studies
Well, I have been the only one posting about their career in this forum, for over two years. Doing so has started to feel awkward, and having a new subforum wouldn't change it.smaragdus wrote:Why? Re: I have completed my studies
I also was in a very bad spot this year, career wise... and my problems aren't exactly over, but I have to believe it will get better... just wish I was a lazy, stupid s.o.b. so I would have a reason for why it happens...

No worries.SYSTEM wrote:Doing so has started to feel awkward, and having a new subforum wouldn't change it.
For what it's worth, I've edited a lot of resumes and would be happy to take a look at either of yours. Sort of goes with a career in tech writing.joby wrote:I also was in a very bad spot this year, career wise...
Re: I have completed my studies
In my line of work the resume is not that important, only the testing (oral and written exams) results count. Wish I was a tech guy, but my parents had other plans for me...
Re: I have completed my studies
I think you're a little more techy than you think you are. Much of my skill has been developed through work here on the site, but my job in particular rewards broad technical awareness. Most jobs (the vast majority) want specialization.joby_toss wrote:Wish I was a tech guy
*Nods* a good chunk of the world goes into the area their parents set for them.joby_toss wrote:... but my parents had other plans for me...
Re: I have completed my studies
I think one important reason why I ended up in tech, and games, is because my parents did not want it. I repelled their wishes.joby_toss wrote:Wish I was a tech guy, but my parents had other plans for me...
