N2N (peer-to-peer vpn software)

#1 Post by Midas »

(This appears to be way over my head, but didn't want to let it pass unchecked in this age of major security concerns). n2n is an OSS VPN solution freely available for Windows, Linux, and MacOS...
  • http://www.ntop.org/products/n2n/ author wrote:n2n is a layer-two peer-to-peer virtual private network (VPN) which allows users to exploit features typical of P2P applications at network instead of application level. This means that users can gain native IP visibility (e.g. two PCs belonging to the same n2n network can ping each other) and be reachable with the same network IP address regardless of the network where they currently belong.
Although n2n code has to be compiled(!), it seems pretty straightforward if you have access to a Linux box -- there are some instructions at http://www.ubuntugeek.com/configuring-l ... g-n2n.html, for example.

N2N Edge GUI, a basic Windows GUI configurator is available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/n2nedgegui/.

It's an interesting idea that might build a fairly good darknet. I found this link illuminating:
