Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
After using Everything *beta* version 1.3.3.658b almost every day for about one year now, (admittedly under win XP exclusively),
I am quite pleased with its remarkably swift NTFS file-search performance.
Now Voidtools has just released an updated *beta* for Windows - Version 1.3.4.662b (dated Saturday 7th June 2014), in various packages:
http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.3.4.662b.x64.exe (Installer, x64, 527 KB)
http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.3.4.662b.x86.exe (Installer, x86, 444 KB)
http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.3.4.662b.x64.zip (Portable, x64, 543 KB)
http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.3.4.662b.x86.zip (Portable, x86, 430 KB)
Changelog:
- added run as admin option
- added wildcards anywhere option
- added run date column/sort/search
- added support for accessible MSAA
- added option to toggle left or right filter bar
- added etp connection history
- improved efficiency of the Everything service
- improved RTL support
- improved multi-monitor support
- improved performance when renaming/deleting folders
- improved run history after renaming/deleting an item
- fixed an issue with monitors stopping and not starting again
- fixed an issue with Everything not getting focus on startup
- fixed a crash when closing a window
- fixed a crash when adding an item to an empty array.
- fixed an issue with whole words and non ascii chars
- fixed a GDI leak
- fixed an issue when searching for paths using wildcards
Perhaps this well-rounded *beta* version deserves to be included in the main DB entry as well?

Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
I've been using the beta often as well and I agree that it's very sold. Adding it to the entry sounds worthwhile.__philippe wrote:Perhaps this well-rounded *beta* version deserves to be included in the main DB entry as well?
Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
Same here. I think it's very solid and adding it would not be a problem.
Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
I would argue beta releases should stay out of the database, as there is nothing more annoying from a developer's perspective when people outside the developing team regard their product as stable. It can also lead to bad publicity.
Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
That's a very good point!
I'd like to see the stable version as the official entry, but I would also like to see in the description the information regarding the latest beta (with a download link). The problem with this would be the lack of update notifying (for beta version changes).

Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
Seems Checker has added a note to the entry.
Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
According to the change history webfork added the note back on February 2013. Checker merely reformatted it.guinness wrote:Seems Checker has added a note to the entry.

I didn't pay close attention to the logs, sorry.

Problem somewhat mitigated by peeking at the few beta update notifications surfacing now-and-then in the relevant DB "comments" section...joby_toss wrote:... The problem with this would be the lack of update notifying (for beta version changes).

Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
I'm afraid that big new "Limitations" section unfairly highlights the negatives of one of the best (both by accolades and followers), popular (88.4%), and accomplished programs in TPFC's database...
Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
Yeah, that wasn't clear ... the plan here was to say some more about the beta and potentially link to it rather than just mention it as we're doing now.SYSTEM wrote:According to the change history webfork added the note back on February 2013. Checker merely reformatted it.
I concur with guiness about how annoying it must be for people treat a beta like a release so any edits would of course come with a brief disclaimer (like "less stable" or something).
Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
I noticed in the changelog items about 'Bookmarks', but I've never seen them before, am I missing something?

Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)
Thanks. The beta certainly seems to have most of the features. Also there's some amazing work at the documentation there, even a customizable selection rectangle .
