Application to log system start and shutdown timestamps

#1 Post by spicydog »

Can anyone kindly recommend a Win XP application that I can use to log system start and shutdown timestamps, without having to go and interpret the Event Viewer codes/ID #s?

It would be great if the same utility could also log the timestamps of logon and logoffs.

I am not looking for anything fancy, actually I would favor a minimalist application... Suggestions for both free/shareware would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

He means you posted in the wrong forum. This forum is to let other users know an app in the database has a new version out. :)

You probably should have posted this in Discussion or Chit Chat.

I am trying to use AutoHotkey to make a script to do what you ask. Not sure if I can figure it out though. I will let you know if I succeed.

Have a look at Neuber's PC On/Off (Freeware) or Visual TimeAnalyzer (Payware).

And yes, it would be nice to move this to "discussion" subforum.

Hi webfork... This is really embarrassing, I just realized that I incorrectly started several threads in the "Portable Freeware Update" forum without noticing it... Until today!

Sorry to have caused confusion and thanks to you, joby_toss and dmg (for pointing that out).

Thanks, I also like PC On/Off but PC Usage Viewer (suggested by NickR) seems to have a nicer GUI and no advertising ;)

Despite my initial enthusiasm I have been forced to ditch both "PC On/Off" and "PC Usage Viewer" because on my current system -due to an installed rollback application which is actively running- the only data detected/logged by both applications were the snapshots creation timestamps  ... So in a month log my system appeared to be up for barely 10 minutes!

The fact that both apps are rendered basically useless by the coexistence of a system rollback program should be probably mentioned somewhere in the app description... (webfork's input in this respect would be certainly beneficial).

Fortunately, dmg's AutoHotkey script (anticipated some 10 posts ago) turned out to be an excellent solution to that problem and with it I am now able to log in a reliable and detailed way all system power-down/up activities.

I understand that his script might be somewhat elaborated before an eventual release but with dmg's approval, the executable that I am using now (which is my version of his original script) can be downloaded (along with a concise Readme) here:

File name: Activity Logger.rar File size: 199.69 KB

Thanks again to all participants to this thread and especially to dmg for his brilliant solution.
