Suggestion about website

#1 Post by loin2kolpotoru »

Suggestion about website -

I have seen that so many freewares are submitted by forum
members which are not found in other popular freeware sites
but they ware not added in the main portablefreeware.com
site because they are not portable or some other reason.
But Many users who are looking for freeware alternative of
some prgram can find them useful. But to find one program
searching all forum posts is not possible.

So i suggest you to create a sister site of portablefreeware.com
which will list all freeware program submitted by forum members
which are not portable and not listed in the main site this will
help users looking for freeware programs.

There is a forum section for freeware that is not portable.

And I think it's a better place for such talk than another site would be.

I like portablefreeware's format for listing freeware and I think its excellent. It makes sense that we also might start taking in non-portable software in the same format, but I think a lot of other web sites are actively doing this. While their format, attention to detail, and ease of use may not be as good as ours, they generally update on a database automatically; we only beat a few other web sites on portable software updates, we wouldn't beat anyone if we did exclusively freeware.

Additionally, we benefit from a lot of users here on the site that love portable freeware and are willing to put their time and effort into it. I'm not sure that we'd find the same community of interested people to work on freeware as well, and thus the website wouldn't work nearly as well as the portable side.

I'm very available to being wrong about this and I welcome any efforts if Andrew wants to set something like this up to see where it goes.

True. Its not as if the users here are able to exclusively use portable software. We all have to use other types of freeware and probably could provide a lot of information and background on those as well. I guess it would be nice to make that freeware indexed, searchable, etc. but I'm not sure how to implement that without compromising the basic direction of the site.

Still, I have to think that in 5 years if the site still has the active authorship it has now, it will probably do a whole lot more work on non-portable freeware and it would be nice to have that clearly done. Maybe a wiki?

Yes wikis format can be one option or another option can be
when a user wants submit a freeware he will be given a optional
Choice to fill a form which will be structured something like this -

Catagory of the Freeware - Multimedia/System/Utilities Etc.
Name of the Freeware -
website -
Portable - Yes/No
Description of the Freeware -

According the Catagory of the Software it will Automatically
be Indaxed in the Forums Index, And when any user opens that
page he will be given a option to rate the software between 1 to 5
the more ratings it gates more it comes up in its Index's List.

It's unlikely that I will take on such a pursuit. Lack of interest and time are the main reasons. Plus there are tons of freeware websites I really doubt we need another one!

Agreed... focusing on portable freeware is what makes this site stand out.
