You were waiting on me? Where did you send a message?
I created a real basic page that sort of mirrors the config used by the "CafeConfig" thing. Add or delete as you see fit!

Re: Keep your portable software up to date with WebVersions
Today I have worked again on my updater, the new version is available here:
http://lupo.forumactif.net/development- ... 15.htm#638
This tool is born from a different idea: to be the updater for portable software preincluded in Lupo PenSuite. Then I have decide to expand it, so I'm working to add the support for portableapps updates (and in future also for custom updates).
The tool check software included only in Apps, Games and MyApps folders of the Suite. Anyway, in the next updater release I'll also add the support of custom folders, to make it a little more flexible.
One question: WebVersions allow to download a new software release when is available or automatically update it keeping its previous settings?

Re: Keep your portable software up to date with WebVersions
WebVersions simply looks for changes in the SourceCode and notifies of a change in the version number, its not like Ketarin, you still have to manually download and update yourself.I found Ketarin at the time very hard to customise and inconsistent with the update feature, sometimes it would download when the application hadn't even updated. I just like the App because it saves me hours per month having to search through the obscure portable apps I have which don't appear on PortableFreeware, FreewareFiles or PortableApps RSS Feeds.
I have download your App and will test out.
Plus I haven't created WebVersions I merely stumbled across it 5days ago and it suited what I was looking for. I used UpdateScanner, a Firefox plugin which looks for any changes on the web page you specify, but take for example your application ArcThemAll! it would always show as a change had occurred, but this was down to the comments, because it shows how many days have past since being posted. So I thought I want a Plugin/App which can monitor a portion of text e.g. 1.6.0 so when you update again (!) it will notify me, this is when I found WebMon and later WebVersions.

Re: How do you keep uptodate with your portable software?
@ guinness:
I searched for a documention (or help-file) of WebVersions, but I didn't find any.
Do you have one or do you have a link for me where I can download one.
BTW: Very good work
... Please do ... my eye is not everywhere... I hope Checker doesn't mind. I will still look out for the updates in Portable Freeware. ...

Re: Keep your portable software up to date with WebVersions
I'm preparing my updater to support external software.. actually I have completed the structure for internal updates and added the support for portableapps software. Obviously, for internal software is supported the automatic update, for external apps is alerted that a new release is available.
As I said, in future I'd like to add external software checking, but I need your help to design the code of this feature. So, any advice about how this feature may works are welcome.. I could think to create something like WebVersions mechanism, or a different one..

Re: Keep your portable software up to date with WebVersions
I downloaded Lupo PenSuite 6.76 so will see how you have come on with your Updater (but I know DropIt has been your priority right now). I did find something similar but it wasn't portable and needed to be installed http://www.youtube.com/user/mobilephone ... Oilm2eKiSc.
I just thought I would add a couple more keys to reflect Checkers updating regime this week.
simply copy this into the WebVersion.txt file as shown in the tutorial above. I haven't included all the updates and I mix between PortableApps and WinPenPack but I do check the official sites and update manually if not available on the respective 'wrapper' sites.

Re: Keep your portable software up to date with WebVersions
I'm working on DropIt, but I previously completed the updater of Lupo PenSuite. Now it is many more stable, widely improved, with a right-click context menu that allow to access to software webpage, to have more info about it, to skip it during the checking, to remove it from the Suite. Now are also available features like backup and restore settings (or entire apps) of the Suite. The checking support also portableapps software, with the only limitation to update them manually. During the backup is also created a log file, to verify that the procedure works fine.
Re: Keep your portable software up to date with WebVersions
As part of my ongoing segment on WebVersions, I decided to contribute with adding the utilities contained in Universal Extractor and with an update section from Lupo73 and in PFWC I thought it would be easy to create (I was wrong!) Some Apps have blank Version numbers because there was no Version number to check on the site, so I simply left it to link to the site to manually download, but there are only 3 applications like this. This is 95% of the Apps included in Universal Extractor.
How to use.
If you copy the following into the WebVersions.txt file below line 1 which reads Doc version 3.1;; and select the Web Update button, it will check for new versions of the files. It's easy to create these via the GUI, but I have done it so you don't have to
Note: Plus I should thank User:Donald because he posted the original submission...See Here.

Re: WebVersions
I thought I would throw my two cents into this conversion and give a suggestion. What if for each program in the database, the one-line Webversions data was given in the product info. Now, there is no reason to do this for the programs already in the database, just for the new ones (and updated ones) as they are added - similar to how the newer programs have a "what's new" segment.
When a user submits a file to the database, have them enter the Webversions one-liner for that program. Then, Andrew could add this along with the other data (e.g. license, system requirements, etc.). Also, have a "[?]" link (like the one seen next to "Stealth") that links to a section in the FAQ, which describes how to use the Webversions data.
For example, (at the time of writing this) the latest program was SIV (version 4.04).
So, for SIV, the Webversions would look like the below example (omitting the info and tab names, which are afterwards).
Edit: the "?", as well as the word "Webversions" (for readability), currently links to this post
SIV V4.04
.....
System Requirements: Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Webversions [?]: SIV;4.04;4.04;http://rh-software.com/;false;<;Version;;;;
What's new: >>
This would allow the user to easily add the program to their Webversions database when they download the latest version, while allowing them to keep their existing tab names/info (since they appear at the end).

Re: WebVersions
Yeh WebFork suggested in this thread of doing that too. I for one would favour this but perhaps posting this here http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... =12&t=5651 would be more beneficial?

I just saw the developer of WebVersions has posted a link to the Tutorial in this forum. Which is an honour that they are interested in our discussion about the software. Looking back at the history it appears the software was called SoftVersions and has been created since 2004/12/29.
