Xrecode - audio conversion, cd rip
Xrecode - audio conversion, cd rip
Just found a neat little app, that does some audio conversions:
http://xrecode.com/
The most useful feature to me was splitting of a flac file based on a cue sheet (there are not many alternatives found in the PFC database). It's not stealth, as it writes some settings into the registry, but otherwise seems to be portable.

xrecode might not need installation, but it's not portable
Xrecode isn't acceptable for the database because it saves ALL settings to the registry, which makes it not portable (see the "About" page ).
I like the UI - who needs aesthetically pleasing - but Foobar2000 will remain my go-to app for audio (playing and quick conversions) as well. When I finally decide to re-rip ALL of my CDs to flac I'll probably use Bonkenc.

To me "foobar2000" is not as easy to use (Audio File Converterthat is) as "PowerEnc" "dB poweramp v10.0" or "WinLame" (hell, even "MediaCoder" & "Bonkenc" are easier)
Try teaching a newbe to use "foobar2000" vs "Xrecode".
I also change Channels, Bitrate & Sample Frequency file by file.
Life is too short for "foobar2000 GUI"

Re: XRECODE
Author released a portable version: 1.0.0.173. Supports what looks like 50 formats and command Line parameters (for batch stuff) are supported. Freeware. http://xrecode.com/
Also, unlike other programs here on the site, clearly gives attribution to FFmpeg.

I didn't see that at first run -- you're right.

xrecode costs 10 EUR/15 USD but it seems that besides the nag screen there are no other limitations in the unregistered version and that the trial never expires. It is portable now, but not free

xrecode III
xrecode II has silently become xrecode III:
The new xrecode III page.
The original xrecode II page at the Internet Archive.
Once before purchasing xrecode II I asked the developer several questions, one of which was:
Change log for xrecode II

Once before purchasing xrecode II I asked the developer several questions, one of which was:
And I got this answer:- Are there any free updates (minor updates, updates within a year after purchasing) or it is a permanent license?
Now at xrecode III PURCHASE page I read this:It is a permanent license, i.e. for all minor/major future updates.
The program is good and it covers my basic audio concerting needs. The developer is formally right- my xrecode III is a new product only historically related to xrecode II, my xrecode II license is still working and I get no nags to upgrade to xrecode III. The developer has stated that:If you have purchased XRECODE II during year 2016, please contact me at xrecode@gmail.com for more details.
If you are holder of XRECODE II licence, you are eligible for 50% discount. Please contact me at xrecode@gmail.com for more details.
which means that the upgrade from xrecode II to xrecode III is extremely cheap (5 euro). The program is regularly updated and the developers answers to suggestions, feature requests and bug reports. But when I was purchasing it I had the "pay & forget" attitude as I hate the whole process of buying, getting licenses and registering programs so I doubt whether I will upgrade. So if you plan to purchase a license of xrecode III have in mind that at some time in the future it may become xrecode IV and you will be entitled to get a 50% discount. Yes, the licenses are permanent, just the program evolves. Also pay attention that the console version is sold as a separate product. If you are holder of XRECODE II licence, you are eligible for 50% discount.
