Hi,
I have been using Kakasoft Folder Protector 4.6. I used it to encrypt my folders which contains confidential data such as office accounts, passwords, bank statements, photos etc. I successfully encrypted using a password. When i retype that password to decrypt, it displays the error message as incorrect password. Inorder to recover the encrypted folders what should i do? Is there any way to do it? Does anyone have a username and registration key for that software? Please provide me with some suggestion and tips to retrieve all my folders back!!!! I am in deep need of it...

Search before posting. You're not the first to have problems with it.

See: http://portablefreeware.com/forums/view ... t=kakasoft

BTW: "Kaka" is a word little kids in Germany use for "s.h.i.t" ... I think, that explains a lot

not only in Germany... http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=kaka

In some parts of the world people love to eat "kaka" (kaka = Norwegian for cake).

This was prepared based on Redllar's advice from the readme that came with his HideDir program.

Put UnLockDir.bat in the folder that was ''locked'' and run it and ''hopefully'' a folder named ''unhidden'' will show up.

It should work for Redllar's HideDir program and versions 4.6, 4.7 and 5.0 of LockDir.

Edit: Added Win9x support.

OK, Queue's answer was more constructive than mine - if this is, what you are saying with your post.
But: I linked to the same.
And: It may not work (I didn't try it out).

@Checker:

I was not trying to say your answer was not constructive. It was very concise. I remember following that thread originally. When Kakasoft folder protector was first discussed on the forums I was interested in how it was able to "encrypt" folders at such a high rate of speed. I was quite excited until I found out it was just hiding my folders. I remember testing that method to unhide my folders and it worked for me. I don't remember what version of Kaka FP I was running though.

Clear
BTW: What software are you using now to encrypt your folders?

@ Checker:

I am now using DCU (Drag'n'Crypt Ultra)

Website:
http://www.bitcore.de/dcu/home.html

It does still take some time to encrypt and decrypt, but it doesn't make my computer perform slowly while its doing it. You drag and drop files or you can setup a favorites.

you could also just use Total Commander to delete those files you cant get to, just after you transfer your important files out, delete the ones in the locked area that you cant get to.

Click on the folder once, press the Delete button, it will ask "Do you really want to delete the selected directory XXXXX?"
Select "Yes" and you've just recovered the lost space.

I did this and found I still couldnt delete the original folders, even though nothing was in them. I used Lockdir where I used to have it and used the correct password that it didnt accept before and for some reason this time it worked and I was able to delete those empty folders.

EDIT: Just found an esier way, when you use Total Commander, go into the locked files and in the file called "uo" with those special characters, delete a file called "system.db", a database file that has the password stored inside to unlock the folder. Exit out of Total Commander and use lockdir.exe in the folder you cant enter, even if you use cant use the correct password. This time, when you run lockdir, it will still ask for a password. This next step is important:

Enter any password, it doesnt matter what it is.

Lockdir will accept the password and you're in, all files intact. This saves time since you dont have to recopy all your files in order to recover them.

(Reason why the password was accepted in the previous method was because any password would have worked since "system.db" was deleted)
