XBMC
I tried putting the .asoundrc in /home/xbmc. Rebooted, changed the default audio device to "default".When i tried to play mp3 etc now XBMC just restarts.
Re: XBMC
Perhaps you could list it in your favorites?Kermode wrote:Why was this never added?
I just tried it - the installer lets you chose "portable" and all this does is add "-p" to the shortcut to the program - then its portable.
Hey, portable is good
Then post a link to it here so it can be voted on.
Re: XBMC
I would venture a guess that he is speaking of folder structure when he mentions this. (Likely a set of subfolders)Kermode wrote:"/home" ? sounds like linux.
This site is about the PC programs.
Also XBMC is a multi-OS program;
Some of the Multi-OS programs are all in one and just work in several OS'.XBMC is available for Linux, OSX, Windows, and the original Xbox.
******Edit
This comes as seperate exe's for each OS
Re: XBMC
For those who like PortableApps Wrappers then try XBMC Media Center Portable

Wishing it were so=>Re: XBMC
OK, it's much later now, and I just grabbed version 11 of it:
Any help for this, please ?!?
Thank you.
There isn't any option for portable that I could find, and UE will extract it as a 7Z, but it then has a non-specific mess of folders and refuses to open saying it was not properly installed...Kermode wrote:I just tried it - the installer lets you chose "portable"...

Re: XBMC
Just tested briefly. I installed XBMC, then copied the folder and ran xbmc.exe with the '-p' switch. That creates a "portable_data" folder inside the XBMC folder.
As for registry entries, it creates one entry in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DirectInput
Note: XBMC relies on DirectX and Visual C++

is it stealth?

If you use the UE .7z method, you'll need to move the directories in $_OUTDIR to the proper directories.smallhagrid wrote:There isn't any option for portable that I could find, and UE will extract it as a 7Z, but it then has a non-specific mess of folders and refuses to open saying it was not properly installed...

There is a 3rd-party portable put together on the tvaddons forums here:
https://forums.tvaddons.ag/kodi-tweaks/ ... z-exe.html
This will save you the trouble of having to install Kodi.
Their package has an .exe wrapper for the -p switch. However, I just decided to copy the App directory and made my own shortcut to Kodi.exe.
is it stealth?

- I read this as implying that Windows Kodi is natively portable if, after a correct extraction, the main executable is launched with the "-p" parameter. Am I correct?

Re: XBMC
Yeah, that's correct.
Using "kodi.exe -p" should allow the data to live in the /portable_data/ folder.
I mentioned this in a previous post before XBMC was renamed to Kodi:

Re: Kodi 64-bit release
Good news for Kodi: upcoming v18 will include a native Windows 64-bit build (current Kodi v17.3 "Krypton" is 32-bit only; download from https://kodi.tv/download).
@webfork: can OP subject be ammended to include the Kodi rename, since this will be the official forum topic for its portable submission? Thanks.

Why it's important to go to the source for Kodi:
