TagSpaces (file management utility)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Release 3.1.1 is out.

To answer my own question from earlier in the thread:
Have you been using the program? What's it useful/ideal for?
I didn't know what to do with this program at home because I tend to give my files very descriptive names. There are plenty of reasons why you wouldn't want to rename a file but due to system, security, or age limitations (such as old 8 character DOS files), but still want to have as much information about a set of files as possible.

For example, I a lot of old PDF files on my work machine that I can't modify to give a descriptive name because I need to maintain the current naming convention and don't want to accidentally download a duplicate.

Note that the program is Electron-based, but I don't think I'd be running it 24/7 so it might not be an issue.

TagSpaces v3.2.0 released (changelog at https://github.com/tagspaces/tagspaces/releases).

BTW, someone re-purposed TagSpaces as a notetaker and manager:

Native TagSpaces portability is explained in the official user manual:

So version 3.7.6 came out last month so I tested this out. A little disappointed by a lot of freemium elements that just sort of take up space, but there are some really interesting bits in this program.

File organization is an important topic for me and I really, REALLY want a program that does a hierarchical structural method ala Cubicexplorer (as below)

...but I can see the tags functionality being just as powerful and effective with a little extra work.

Resources: standard Electron requirements, 200 megs of disk space, 7 processes with roughly 70 megs of RAM

Two updates this year already -- seeing some nice changes here. Might have to come back to this tool.

Retested TagSpaces' ZIP file version now rather than the Uniextract step listed earlier in the thread. It's currently not portable and saves to AppData. I haven't tested the Uniextract process.

Tested version 4.2.1 downloaded from https://www.tagspaces.org/downloads/

Screen shot of the view during startup of the option to either rename files or a "sidecar" function that creates a .ts folder in each associated folder.

Another possible tagging program: Intag. https://github.com/Jamminroot/intag ... not portable.
