Am I msising something? The Devs changelog always says "Some fix". lol.

aazard on 2020-11-26 00:54

Tablacus Explorer is very powerful >>> in the way of plugins (see for yourself)

It can be a simple, but very well made, file manager or mid-weight IDE to replace gVIM/Geany (seriously)

If you want a file manager, explorer commander or QDir are very nice, fast & light with good features

BUT if your a "power user"..YOU WANT THIS APP

I like this software but it has some bugs.

qj3328 on 2019-10-31 00:35

I have been using FreeCommander for many years and it is, simply, outstanding. To not have a real file manager is a misfortune; to be without FreeCommander is to be handicapped. Over time I have introduced many new users to FreeCommander and the results are always the same after several weeks of use - fascination that they ever managed to function with that Windows File Explorer thing. I had moved to FreeCommander when the old Xtree/XtreeGold file manager was no longer functional in Windows, and other file managers were not handling the complex file management work regularly encountered. At first, the two default panes in FreeCommander seemed odd. Though one pane can be disabled or hidden, dual panes grow quickly on the user until one realizes - wait, how can anyone function with a file manager that has just one pane?

XYplorer has a strange support for unicode - it can manipulate files with unicode characters (In particular, Georgian unicode characters) in their filenames, i.e. it can show, copy, move, delete, etc. them, but when I try to rename a file, it writes just "question marks" instead of characters.

And this applies to both free and paid versions.

bawldiggle on 2019-12-15 03:03

Unfortunately free version is so old it has not kept pace with PRO.
v17.40.0100 PRO did not have GUI customization, where as current PRO does.
Options are an eye watering 975 settings
MenuBar Menus are sooo long they dont fit on my 23" monitor
The original developer does not know how to "hide" irrelevant menu-items,
to minimize user shock

freakazoid on 2019-12-16 04:18

@bawldiggle AFAIK, XYPlorer doesn't have a free version anymore. The developer stopped supporting it awhile ago. All efforts now are to the PRO version.

Perhaps Just Manager became public too late as it is unlikely to see any new releases in the future. At least billon, Checker and SYSTEM will be spared the effort to update the entry. Although labelled Alpha, Just Manager seems to be very stable and the built-in FTP client works fine.

Great for bare bones Windows PE, it runs without any dependencies, it seems, very useful in x64, too bad it's not supported anymore...

FileCommander v5.0.9

webfork on 26 Jul 2015
  • 3MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

FileCommander is a feature-rich, multi-pane file manager that supports up to 4 simultaneous browser windows (enabled with "View", "Extended view"). File highlighting to separate different file types and comes with 3 different "themes," or skins. Includes a process list, folder comparison/synchronization tool, MD5 hash, file splitter, network monitor, virtual drives, file sharing, CD burner etc. ZIP, 7zip and RAR files are handled as folders and file preview tool (F3) allows a quick-view for a long list of file types. Additionally, the program includes an "open with" capability that supports relative pathways, allowing FileCommander to open files using other portable software.

Performance enhancements over regular Explorer include individual threads for each window so the rest of the program doesn't slow down during one window's process (e.g. CD spin-up, network delay). Internal clipboard means Windows' own clipboard will not be overwritten.

I've used this for 2 years and in general like it. I've set it up for a photographer relative to tag his vast family and sport photo collections.

Note it is NOT intuitive. And for Portable users, there is a catch-22. Either all your files end up in one directory, or if you use Alias mode, the files remain where they are, but if you move them (say to a different directory structure or to a different drive), the hard-coded aliases are broken. They are in a UUIC-named text file and I have not been able to relate which alias to which file/document without opening the alias.
