@Emka - The first item under OPTIONS look like you can set the utility to delete the jpgs when you exit the program. I have never been very sure the program actually does what it says, so I simply use the second item in OPTIONS to check and delete as necessary. Periodically I use the jpg instead the pdf so I actually find this useful. Bottom line is that I wish the author would clean all this up a bit more, but I find the utility so useful (use it every day almost) that I am prepared to work around the idiosyncrasies.

@MIKLO & _philippe: It now seems possible to select a folder for temporary files, so you can change the default location in AppData to the app's folder for example. |
NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner 2) is a document scanning application with a focus on simplicity and ease of use. Scan your documents from WIA- and TWAIN-compatible scanners, organize the pages as you like, and save them as PDF, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, and other file formats.

i2pdf (image to pdf) is a fast and compact application built to create PDF documents from a collection of images, typically scanned from a paper source or in form of digital photographs. i2pdf allows control over the final quality and size of the images stored inside the PDF. Supports JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF and TIFF file formats.
Note multi page / multi-frame formats are not supported (for example, multi-page TIFFs or animated GIFs). Additionally, transparency data is not preserved whether a PNG or GIF file.
Note: Development of i2pdf is stopped, only bug-fixing if required from now on, no new features.

This is an easy print-to-PDF tool for programs like PowerPoint and LibreOffice Impress that can export their content to a page-per-image. I've also been using it a lot lately to avoid the built-in JPEG-based compression that many other export tools integrate. |
Scan2PDF helps you scan paper documents directly into PDF files. It has a non-interactive option so that you can bypass the scanner driver interface during scanning. In addition, you can change the order of scanned images, as well as rotate and delete them.

Seems to be an old program, but does a wonderful job and was exactly what I needed. |
STP (Scan to PDF) lets you convert paper documents into PDF files. Functions include creating JPEG files from scanned images, PDF creation from separate JPEG files, preview with basic image editing functions (rotate, crop), external preview and editing, variable compression/quality of PDF pages, etc.
Note: The website for this program appears to have been hijacked. Download link has been changed to Softpedia.

I get the best pdf scan output using IrfanView: smallest pdf file size and highest font quality (no OCR, obviously).

It seems you have to complete a survey or download games before you can download the application...:-( |
