@Wolfghost - All our apps have an INI that lets you disable the splash. You can disable them all in the PortableApps.com Platform in the Options window as well. Unless the splash is built into the app itself, of course, like GIMP et al, in which case you need to follow the directions for disabling the splash in the base app.

Update: I installed the latest version (2.0) a few days ago: had previously been working with v1.94 (on Linux and previously on Win7). Was able to test both versions on Windows 10 only (Oct/2018 update) - my Linux laptop is being replaced.

Turns out both versions need .NET Framework. When running v2.0, it didn't notify me that .NET was missing. When I tried to access a drive, it stalled - I 'forced closed' the app.

Running v1.94 will notify you of missing .NET Framework and correctly download and install it. After I did this, v2.0 ran without problems.

On the same directory, v2.0 created a 54mb html file and was noticeably slower generating it. My browsers (Firefox and Brave) took a long while to parse and display. Built-in search was also very slow.

v1.94 (on the same directory), created a 1mb file. Much smaller. Parsed instantly on FF and Brave. Search/Filter was snappy.

Maybe this is an isolated incident. I'm on Windows (temporarily) for the first time in a few years: went through updates, tried to secure for privacy, installed a few programs, etc...

Bottom line: If v2.0 isn't working well for you, v1.94 works great.

Update on my comment of 2019-04-27 regarding Snap2HTML on Linux/WINE.

Found a great Linux solution named: LinuxDir2HTML (github/homeisfar)

It's a command-line only python (3.6+) script that's only 11kb in size. It uses the same HTML template as Snap2HTML. I've been testing it on large directories with all manner of fileNaming. It's been great so far.

Honestly, Snap2HTML was the only program I needed WINE for. It was that valuable to me. Finding this python script reduces any overhead (plus all the .NET components) and gives me some future-proofing.

Version 1.92 of Snap2HTML was the only thing that worked for me on Linux and (last time I checked) wasn't available online anymore. I had it archived in multiple places. LinuxDir2HTML (homeisfar) answered the call.

DriveSort v1.242

billon on 16 Sep 2018
  • 198KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 15 Sep 2018
  • Suggested by MarkB / tls

DriveSort directly reads directory tables of FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 formatted volumes, allowing users to view file listings in the order they were written.

Recent operating systems re-sort file lists before display, either by name, by size, or by whatever the user chooses. However, the firmware of playing devices -- like small MP3 players, for example -- sometimes behaves differently, mostly because they lack necessary resources (CPU, memory), a problem developers usually solve by dis/playing files in the order they are written on the storage medium -- normally, the order they were added.

Additionally, DriveSort is able to change that ordering, making itself useful for re-arranging movies, series episodes, audio or picture files on FATx formatted media; afterwards, players will be able to reproduce files in the expected sequence.

as the author has said
"...this tool requires admin rights since it interacts with the sorted disk partition"
if you get an "access denied" error
then it means that another program is accessing your usb
you could probably use unlocker to determine what other program is accessing your usb

best practice:
i would NOT use this on my 500gb external HD
unless i'm darned sure i can restore it's contents
i only use this on my 32 gb usb's (containing copies of my video files)
while my original files stay safe on my 500gb external HD

Ah, right, very good point, that IS handy, to make quick links to your storage folders. You can make a folder on the thumb drive "sort_folder", then make shortcuts to folders within that, then put a shortcut to "sort_folder", but not as easy as this app. Good job in finding an app to make that's somewhat original these days.

This should be removed from the database. Neither the website, nor the link via archive.org do work, so there's no way to download. I guess the project is plain dead.

The archive.org mirror link to http://ls.iatp.org.ua/download/files/mylib093ex.zip still works

Oops! I spoke too soon - sorry.

Following the mirror site link from archive.org appears to start a download, but it stops after 125.5Kb has downloaded.

Following the link I gave above leads to a website in a Cyrillic language which I cannot read. If anyone can read it, it might explain what has happened.

MaxLister v2.41

  • Released on
  • Suggested by Darkbee

MaxLister creates virtual images of floppy disks, CD-ROMs or other removable media. This is useful for keeping track of that vast CD collection, a problem that a lot of people come across these days. With MaxLister, you can save any drive or folder to a MXL file, then browse or search it in a Windows Explorer interface. You can also choose to save the information in a plain text file in three different layouts: Collapsed, Folders only and Folders and Filenames.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Application folder
Unicode support: No
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch MaxLister.exe.

Website / Download - 402 Access Denied

My .mxl files aren't associated with WindowsOS. Is the registry still affected?.
What is missing from maxlister: sorting ability; and locking up before starting. (I usually get around the latter by browsing to pre-existing .mxl file.) It's too bad that the app has stopped at version 2.41. Maxlister let you choose which particular directory of .mxl files you wanted to search through!

A good fast cataloger which creates a single file from each disk (.cf4) whose size ranges from 1K to 200k for lots of files. Its very fast and small. The find feature needs more work as it only locates the first find.

Worth the download - despite its age, still the program to beat.
