I used BitComet as the first torrent client back in the ol days.
Then uTorrent arrived, and I stuck with it for the low resource usage.

@billon
The download links for BitComet version 1.50 - "404 Not Found" (both for the archive and the installer).

Midas on 2018-05-17 14:09

Confirmed just now: https://www.bitcomet.com/en/archive/ shows links for both packages but all you get is an error for v1.50. Alternative download locations pointed to by the homepage don't work either.

@robzuc: see 'What is "portable"' on the "about" page: https://www.portablefreeware.com/about.php Not leaving stuff behind is not "stealth" in the parlance here, and uTorrent works fine when moving from machine to machine and saves your settings.

Peter202 on 2019-05-17 14:49

After i extracted uTorrent.exe 3.5.5 with 7-zip in the extracted folder there are couple of .dll files. Are they needed? Can i delete them?

billon on 2019-05-17 20:35

@Peter202:

No, only file you need is Carrier.exe renamed to uTorrent.exe

Tixati is not "72MB (uncompressed)"- it is either 38 MB (x32) or 36 MB (x64).

__philippe on 2017-02-24 21:12

@billon

Thanks for your quietly updating Tixati's main entry, following the above agitation...;-)

  • "Uncompressed size": revised total footprint of relevant Win PE binaries
  • "How-to-extract": added pertinent advice to discard irrelevant Unix binaries

__philippe on 2017-02-24 23:33

@smaragdus
(Tixati is not "72MB (uncompressed)"- it is either 38 MB (x32) or 36 MB (x64).)

Quite so, strictly speaking...

BUT...

Currently, the "Uncompressed size" field is formally defined in the entry form as:
   "Total size of application files when fully unarchived/uncompressed".

We don't really want to open a whole 'nother can of worms about what exactly ought to be the appropriate scope of the "uncompressed size" field definition, with implication for every current entry in the Data Base, do we ?

...;-)

Getting constantly I/O errors. This program is so bugged.

thepiney on 2019-05-04 04:02

I've used the PA version for several years at least and never had a single issue, although, I don't recall ever using magnet links.

I switched from uTorrent but don't recall why.

appsuser on 2019-05-06 20:41

@thepiney: Same here. I've used magnet links no problem. The only time I've had errors is when the program loses access to the downloaded torrent files while it's still trying to share them (if you deleted or moved the downloaded files without deleting the torrent file). I moved from uTorrent because they started adding advertising, but there are settings tweaks to remove it.

v0.6.2 QT5 does not run on xp because QT5 does not support xp anymore

XP users must use the accompanying v0.6.2 QT4 version

ozziguy on 2017-03-14 10:17

Forgot to mention the portable version is now chosen from the installer

webfork on 2017-03-17 23:00

@ozziguy: Looks like they're still offering the portable 7zip version, and it's 20% smaller. I'll go ahead and list both. Thanks for the note.
