LibreOffice Portable v5.4.2 Updated

billon on 17 Oct 2017
  • 493MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 17 Oct 2017
  • Suggested by JohnTHaller

LibreOffice is a complete productivity suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, database, drawing tool and more. Includes strong compatibility for 100s of file formats including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc.). The program is similar to OpenOffice, a program that it was derived from, but has added many new features and improvements.

LibreOffice Portable is a special build developed in conjunction with the publisher. A "Still" version that's more tested and stable but with fewer features/capabilities is available via the website link. On systems without Java installed, some functions such as document creation wizards and the Base database application etc. can be enabled by adding jPortable, though this is optional and can be skipped if those functions are not needed. Alternatively, X-LibreOffice is also available.

Cross platform with versions available for Mac, Linux/BSD (comes default with most distros) and supports a variety of extensions. A more stable "Still" version is available from the website link.

XP users: v.5.4.0 Rev 2 is the last supported version.

Scroll down to Platform Compatibility - Windows and you'll see that it mentions the MS VC++ 2015 runtime is required and it needs to match the bitness of the version of LO used. If you're on a 64bit system might as well install both 32bit & 64bit.

zorro on 2017-10-19 16:51

...I don't see that: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/system-requirements/
Anyway - the required runtime files are included - I just checked the newest version on my clean, C++Redist-free Win 8.1 machine and it works as usual. Then I looked into the program folder and the C++ DLLs are all there. Well...

LibreOffice Portable v5.4.0 does work correctly on My win7 system.
It does on My winXP, however.
Ive tryed the edition2 version from Portableapps, but its the same issue.
The issue is, theres no text in the interface (GUI).
This is a problem reported on earlier versions of LibreOffice.

CSVfileView v2.20 released as of 23-SEP-2015

Changelog

* Version 2.20:
o Added 'Display Filter' option (F2). The display filter is
somewhat similar to the SQL WHERE clause, for example... The
following filter will instruct CSVFileView to display only lines with
'Yes' value in the Connected column and the 'Device Name' column
contains a 'USB' string:
Connected = 'Yes' AND 'Device Name' CONTAINS 'USB'
o Added 'Load Filter' option to the 'Advanced Open' window. It's
similar to the 'Display Filter' feature, but instead of filtering the
file after it's already loaded , the load filter skip items during
the loading process, so the file will be loaded faster and
CSVFileView will consume less memory.
o Added 'First line contains column names' and 'Automatically
detect the delimiter and quotes characters' options to the 'Advanced
Open' window.
o Added /aload command-line option, for loading a file according to
the 'Advanced Open' settings.
o You can now specify any variable inside the CSVFileView.cfg file
as a command-line parameter, for example... In order to turn off the
'First Line Contains Column Names' option:
CSVFileView.exe /FirstLineColumnNames 0

CSVed v2.5 released 25-APR-2017

Worthwhile CSV utility indeed, but annoyingly, the developer keeps neglecting to refresh his program
outdated internal date-stamp/version-ID tags:

CSVed v2.5.1 released 10-JUN-2017

Regrettably, despite several gentle reminders to the developer, this fine program is still marred by a slipshot attitude towards time-stamping successive PE:
(one needs to rely on the calculated hash values or the entropy # to differentiate executable versions...)

Comepared to MS Office it't a bit of a dull knife. (For the average cook a dull knife does everything with a bit more effort.) OOO does everything you could possible need that MS office does (and a few very great things that MS office doesn't do, like editing PDF in the draw module). It only lacks some of the sharp WOW effects that MS office has. So if you want all functionality minus a few bells and whistles go for Open Office. If you think a a bit of eye candy and a slightly easier to use interface is worth several hundred $$ then shell out. I use the portable version at work because they use OOO 2.3 and the portable version gives me what I need.

webfork on 2015-07-08 22:49

The reason to choose this office suite over LibreOffice is stability; while it's missing a lot of features, compatibility, customization, and other improvements in LibreOffice, crashes are very unusual.  I keep both on my machine depending on my needs.

I was using sumatra for a long time. Recently I had to open a high graphics magagine PDF. And it was very slow, slower than foxit and pdfxchange. Then I tried all the pdf viewers in this site.

After testing I found that, Universal Viewer is the fastest PDF viewer, especially for high graphics magagine kind of PDFs. I have a lower mid range laptop. Universal viewer throws sumatra, pdfxcange, foxit out of water when it comes to speed of loading one after another high graphics page. And it's the lightest of all the PDF viewers, uses minimal CPU unlike others I have mentioned.

ripu on 2015-12-24 06:46

Ignore my previous comment. I am an idiot. It actually uses an old version of Sumatra, which was faster and lighter.

Midas on 2015-12-24 15:59

@ripu: you shouldn't be so hard on yourself, mistakes happen. :)
