AutoHotkey v2.0.11 Updated

lwc on 23 Dec 2023
 • 7MB (uncompressed)
 • Released on 23 Dec 2023
 • Suggested by Jon Pajela

AutoHotkey is a powerful automation and scripting tool with an option to export to a self-contained executable. Possible uses include assigning the hotkey "Ctrl-Alt-F" to launch Firefox, making abbreviations expand to their full definition as you type them, or saving time by setting the computer to auto-click a confirmation screen.

The program can create entire applications and has been used to create many hosted here on PortableFreeware including 7plus, WallPaper Randomizer, Gridy and many more.

Note: Though it's bit outdated (from 2021), Pulover's Macro Creator can be used as a macro recorder and includes an "Export to AHK" function.

Runs on:WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10 / Win11

I strongly suppose that, every time you enter a search, this program will connect not only to the Longman database but will also establish connections either to Google or Amazon (the two biggest tracking firms this poor, abused globe has ever seen). The website with the pure online version doesn't even load if I block Amazon. If someone else tests it and finds out that it doesn't connect either to Google or Amazon, I will download it. :-)

@Orca My impression is that this program is more about the aesthetic. As the description states:

"... visually hide or un-hide only the taskbar ..."

And on the homepage:

"... you love a clean desktop and don’t want even a taskbar to mar your wallpaper ..."

The screenshot itself also merely shows off the interplay between the start button and wallpaper.

MIKLO on 2016-12-27 13:58

Ah am I missing something, what does this do different than auto hide taskbar setting? Yeah I no it leaves the start button but is that really so helpful more than auto hide? Maybe its just me and I ain't tryin to be a hater I'm jus sayin.

"Taskbar Control allows hiding/un-hiding the taskbar, including the 1 pixel line"? Really, is that right? It doesn't hide that 1-pixel line for me.
Does it actually do that for anyone else and, if not, why is that assertion here? Also, if it cannot, where is a program that can do that?

I switched to this from ArsClip about five years ago and love it. Win 10 now provides some of the functionality, but Clipjump has important options, and I have it configured to store my old clipboards. Optionally, you can prepare a list of words, saved as "wordlist.txt" under the same folder as the program file. The zip contains one for general purposes (and the program learns as it goes), but others are available from the homepage.
What's new?
 • Added the ability to exact match on Window Titles (enquote, or tick the checkbox).
 • Added Word Replacements. In wordlist.txt, use the form |r|. To define more than one replacement per word, simply add the word again on a different line. If Case Correction is off, the case of the first letter will be changed to match the word being replaced.
 • Added Word Descriptions. In wordlist.txt, use the form |d|. Replacements and Descriptions are compatible and can exist on the same word. With fixed width fonts, the description will show in a separate column.
 • Added a setting to control the width of the List Box in pixels.
 • Added Numpad Enter as an autocomplete key.
 • Fixed issues with words that had apostrophes (') in them.
 • Set journal_mode to TRUNCATE so the db journal isn't deleted every time.
 • Minor performance improvements when loading the wordlist.
 • Added a progress bar when loading the wordlist.
 • Added a progress bar when cleaning the wordlist (when exiting the script, the box may appear blank. I think this is because the script is exiting).
 • Added framework for database conversions.
 • Fixed issue with overriding the default font.

Found a bug when generating new Preferences.ini files. If you've started anew with TypingAid since v2.19.7, it's probably best to delete your preferences.ini, but it will fix the TerminatingCharacters entry IF you have not modified that entry since the Preferences.ini was created.

*2.19.9 12/18/2014
** Fixed bug when creating TerminatingCharacters when generating preferences file. Broken TerminatingCharacters will be repaired if not already modified.
** Added "Threading" during the input loop to cause less missed keys
** Auto-launch 64 bit exe if present and launching a compiled script (name 64 bit script "64.exe")
** Fixed some poorly named variables

** Detecting Window switches now uses Windows Event Hooks, rather than a timer
** Added weighting based on number of characters left to type
** Changed license to GPLv3 for compatibility with AhkDBA SQLite3 interface
** Added the ability to learn words with no alpha characters when hitting Ctrl-Shift-C, or to read them in from Wordlist.txt

PromptHere is a small utility that sits in the system tray and allows you to open a command prompt directly in the folder you're browsing, using a custom shortcut mouse/key combination. You can also specify if you want the selected file's name pasted or not in the command prompt window by editing the .ini file. Works with a variety of file managers.

Written in AutoHotkey.

Category:
Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch PromptHere.exe.
What's new? v. 2.9.2.0 Recompiled with latest AHK_L. Zip also includes latest
MilesAhead.ahk include file and PromptHere.ahk source.

v. 2.9.1.0 Fixed error if Set Hotkey is closed via Escape key
or clicking the 'x' without setting a hotkey, then opened again.

v. 2.9.0.0
Updated code that opens prompt in current folder when none are selected. No longer requires keyboard macro to shift up a directory in the path. Default Mouse Hotkey changed to Control-MiddleMouseButton(see Suggestion about
Alt key above.)

v. 2.8.1.0
Updated About Dialog.

v. 2.8
Added user selectable keyboard hotkey to open a prompt in DesktopDir as set in .ini file.

v. 2.7
IniEdit updated to 1.6. Accepts file to open via drag & drop.

v. 2.6
IniEdit updated to 1.5. Now pressing Control-t swaps the 2 characters to the left of the insertion point. (If your typo is "thsi" instead of "this" you can fix it by hitting Control-t with the insertion point to the right of the 'i'.) Note that
editor new accepts Tab key. To tab out to buttons from edit box, use Control-Tab.

v. 2.5
Added option in Tray Menu to Edit IniFile. Included tiny Glass .ini editor. Editor requires .NET 3.0 or later with Glass enabled. Otherwise the .ini file will be opened via file association.

v. 2.4
Smoothed the blur effect so that it's there when the prompt is first shown if Glass is enabled.

v. 2.3
Added .ini option DesktopDir. Default dir is C:\ if you click on a blank space on the Desktop while desktop is the "active window."

v. 2.2
Glass feature of prompt may be disabled on Vista or Windows Seven by setting "UseGlass" setting in .ini file to 0. EnableBlurBehind which gives the glass effect, works best if the background color is black. If you have customized your system command prompt to another color and the effect does not look good, set UseGlass to 0 in the .ini file if desired.

v. 2.1
Glass feature now incorporated into the PromptHere exe. The command prompt glass was "translated" from AutoIt3 code by Michael Michta, to AutoHotKey functions. Thanks to Michael Michta for showing me the way to do this in AutoIt3.

v. 2.0
Now uses "blur behind" for Glass prompt if Glass is enabled on Vista or Windows Seven. 7prompt.exe must be in the same folder as PromptHere otherwise an error will occur.

v. 1.5.3.3
Included source and icon in download. No longer using UPX compression to avoid av "false positives."

FYI, Just hold shift and right-click on a folder in Windows 7 (and I believe Vista) to have an "open command prompt here" option. This is quicker and doesn't require a third party app.

codeWarrior on 2010-05-05 20:38

For WinXP, add below instructions to registry file "DosPrompt.reg" and register. You can select then "DOS Prompt" when right-clicking on folder.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\dos]
@="DOS Prompt"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\dos\command]

good tip, thank you. But not a portable solution though, I know my local library won't be letting me do any Registry editing. (they have even disabled Right-Click !!!)

Very useful application for those versed with the iPhone shortcut as suggested by the developer. For those who are not so familiar, it will be provide less typing than ordinarily supplying a period, space and a capital. Works well across MS Office applications, notepad apps (Notepad, Notepad++, etc), graphic apps like Paint.NET, Fotografix etc.

This is a good idea. I have incorporated it in my computer through an AHK script.

Space::DoubleTap("{BS}. ")

DoubleTap(key) {

Why not simply use an AutoHotKey script?
Here is an example for setting WinKey + A to toggle always-on-top:

#a::
WinGet, currentWindow, ID, A
WinGet, ExStyle, ExStyle, ahk_id %currentWindow%
if (ExStyle & 0x8) ; 0x8 is WS_EX_TOPMOST.
Winset, AlwaysOnTop, off, ahk_id %currentWindow%
else
WinSet, AlwaysOnTop, on, ahk_id %currentWindow%
return

dmg on 2012-05-06 22:42

I believe if you look at the Stick-It! source code you will see that I use almost that exact code. But Stick-It! is nice and shiny, and has audio visual effects! Besides, most people do not use AutoHotkey and releasing it as a compiled exe greatly broadens the potential user base.

WinSize2 v2.38.04

WinSize2 provides several window management tools in one. The program automatically re-sizes windows according to predefined sizes, saves and restores icon positions on the desktop that get moved during resolution changes, and even renames window titles or and can send an application predefined characters (e.g. some Tab characters to set the focus in the window to a special field).

The program stores individual window positions for unique resolution settings (e.g. larger screens settings may want larger sizes to fit the screen precisely).

shnbwmn on 2016-01-08 00:11

This program is amazing. It's the only one I've found so far that actually let's you define a GRID as opposed to merely snapping windows to borders or resizing windows in increments.

freakazoid on 2016-05-11 04:27

So I finally had a chance to test this app.

It takes a tiny bit of effort to learn how to set up grids, but once you have them set up, GridMove really sings. Memory usage is around 2.6 MB RAM.

I'm going to use this in place of Sizer.
