Hexplorer v2.6

webfork on 24 Jan 2021
  • 1MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 25 Jan 2006

Hexplorer is an editor for viewing/editing files in hexadecimal format. Its unique feature is the ability to interpret and visualize binary data in various ways eg. view as BMP header or FAT32 boot sector. It comes with a built-in pixel viewer to show binaries as bitmaps. It also doubles up as a disk sector editor since it is able to access logical disks under WinNT/2K/XP.

NOTE: If the program starts up with a very small font, select View from the menu and choose Options - Font - Fixed Roman Large.

Runs on:WinAll
Writes settings to: Application folder
License: GNU GPLv2
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Delete hexplorer_PAD.xml, uninstall.exe and website.url
  3. Launch hexplo.exe

thanks for the tip billybox, i've been looking forever trying to resize the text to a readable state..

Wow, this is not only the most visually appealing, but also the most useful hex editor I've ever tried!

I agree with BillyBob in that the default font (Fixed Roman) is way too small. It would have been better if the author set the default to "OEM Fixed Font" or something.

I also like Autumn, and look forward to more color schemes.

Yes, it has some unusual features, but it is not truely portable. After installing and playing with it for a while, I discovered that it stored the primary (font selection, colors, etc) in two files (hexplorer.dat and mclip.dat) in "%windir%\Application Data". I did not use all the features and tools so other files may be created.

i 'd already dl a "portable" v2.1.0.1 from softpedia. it just unzips. creates some files in same folder (or subfolder) on 1st run. readme says willcreate a strokes.bin also, but did not notice that (but didn't search hdd for that file, or search for filedate of time of 1st run of kudaz)
download page on kudaz geocities.jp is a bit confusing. ver number is same as here (as of now and softpedia when i dled). further down on kudaz page are two diff updates of the executable.
kudazeo.zip 9/9/2007, kudaz.exe 1/28/2007 properties v2.1.0.1 Service Release 3 (all of which matches the exe in the softpedia dl)
kdzeof.zip 1/27/2007, kudaz.exe 9/9/2007 properties readmef says "v2.1.0.1 SR-3h ", which seems to be the not stable version.
