useless. to most of us, PORTABLE requires us to be able to run as NON-ADMIN. can't use this. can't install it. not truly portable. don't get me wrong, I use it all the time on my cluster at home, just can't use this at work or on common machines at school.

dany on 2011-10-27 15:15

@Cattleya: Make sure you download the zip package, because the installer does the following:
"The kernel mode driver used by CPU-Z is installed on the system, that avoids to install / remove it at every run."
The portable version leaves no driver behind, just tested it.

@kc: I used to do sysadmin for a small non-profit org. 7 pc's and 2 printers, no big deal. I carried all my tools on a pendrive. Off course I had admin-rights, but this is a typical scenario a lot of us are in, so it's not entirely useless, portable is the way to go for sysadmins ;)

CPUZ is old, tired and practically useless. It's heyday was about six years ago. Speccy is a must for today.

I just noticed that when FF Portable is closed it leaves behind a folder in AppData :
C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Pending Pings

Using v55 btw.

If I delete the Mozilla folder in AppData, run and immediately close FF Portable, that folder is left behind.

CornHolio the Gringo on 2017-08-19 00:47

@gbrao: Try using Firefox Portable from portableapps.com instead.

@gbrao: thanks for posting about this -- I've added something to the forum about that topic.

Password Safe is a database for encrypting sensitive information. Once opened with a master password, you can copy a password and paste it directly into your application. Alternatively, Password Safe supports "Auto Type" that enters the username and password into the target application by simulating keystrokes.

The database is encrypted using the Twofish encryption algorithm. A Linux version (currently in Beta) is also available from the website.

Alternatively, X-Password Safe and Password Safe Portable are stealth.

This version does not run on XP. The last version that did is 3.38.02, which can be accessed from sourceforge through the download page on the pwsafe.org site. There was some suggestion last year that 3.40 might be fixed to run on XP, but not so far, it seems

jPortable v8 Update 144 Updated

billon on 2 Oct 2017
  • 157MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 1 Oct 2017
  • Suggested by Checker

jPortable (formerly Java Portable) allows you to easily add a Java runtime environment to your portable device. It can be used in combination with jPortable Launcher to open Java JAR programs (many with their settings made portable) or used automatically with Java-enabled apps like PortableApps.com versions of LibreOffice and OpenOffice as well as web browsers like Chrome/Chromium, Opera, SeaMonkey and Firefox.

Category:
System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: None
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
Path portability: Automatic relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: Freeware / Partially Open Source
How to extract: Download the EXE and install to the folder CommonFiles\Java relative to the applications that use Java. For example:
  • If you have installed LibreOffice to Z:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable, install Java Portable to Z:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java
  • Similarly, if you have installed the Java Portable Launcher in Z:\PortableApps\JavaPortableLauncher, install Java Portable to Z:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java
Java programs can be launched via batch files as well (thanks to user bro).

I've got jPortable working with X-LibreOffice as well. :)

E:\X-LibreOffice\Lib>dir /a
Volume in drive E is OHJELMAT
Volume Serial Number is A4D5-8D47

Directory of E:\X-LibreOffice\Lib

02.03.2011 20:19 <DIR> .
02.03.2011 20:19 <DIR> ..
30.01.2011 10:36 <DIR> 7za
02.03.2011 20:19 <JUNCTION> Java [E:\CommonFiles\Java]
0 File(s) 0 bytes
4 Dir(s) 12 645 406 208 bytes free

The trick is that E:\X-LibreOffice\Lib\Java is a junction that points to E:\CommonFiles\Java. This way the content of E:\CommonFiles\Java shows up in E:\X-LibreOffice\Lib\Java.

freakazoid: jPortable can work independently of PA programs, including muCommander and some others I've tested. I tried to edit the entry to help give some idea of how to make that work.
