Cathy indexes files stored on removable media (CD's, DVD's or even diskettes), hard disks or net drives, to create searchable catalogs that can be used without having access to original media. The program is small, fast and easy-to-use with search capabilities based on file name, date and size. Additional features include filtering options, search duplicates or singles, customisable date format etc.

If files are available (external/network drive connected, DVD inserted) they can be opened (executed) or deleted directly. Other features include drag and drop support available, printing of both directory trees and MP3 album/song lists, and disk space usage analysis.

@Kermode: Cathy can handle different drives on the same drive letter; however if you catalog on (F:), and later plugin your drive, while (F:) is being used; and you get the drive letter (G:), the database cannot be refreshed.

Simple little program, but unfortunate doesn't support unicode, so if you have any files w/ foreign language or other special characters, they'll get cataloged as "?" for any unicode character.

Bittorrent Sync v1.3.109 Private

webfork on 19 Sep 2014

  • Suggested by Marc

BitTorrent Sync is a synchronization tool for transferring files securely between two or more devices using BitTorrent technology. Unlike regular file sharing tools, individual connections must be enabled between specific users. It includes bandwidth controls and no set limit on file size, folders, devices, or other users you sync with.

Intended as a more reliable and secure alternative to cloud-based services like Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive, etc. the program does not rely on any specific server or service. No data is saved on machines outside of those you specify. Negatively, there is no way to share a web-accessible link (e.g. "share via web").

Cross-platform with clients available for Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and BSD.

Note: Bittorrent Sync is no longer portable. Linking to the last available portable version (1.3.109).

I've been using BitTorrent sync for a while now & I've written this simple setup guide & key sharing script. It's intended to get newbies up & running and sharing files - more veteran users won't need it.
