I had the problem: "Cannot Delete File: Cannot Read from the Source File or Disk" on my MP3 player. This program works really well!!! Chkdsk doesn't fixed it, this program has put all the damaged files in one invisible map. So tools --> folder options --> view --> uncheck hide protected operating system files --> I could view the files, I could delete that files and my MP3 player was totally empty!! Thanks a lot for making this good program!

Windows Registry Recovery v2.1.0 Updated

billon on 15 Aug 2019
  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 15 Aug 2019
  • Suggested by AlephX

Windows Registry Recovery allows to directly read files containing Windows registry hives and extract many useful information about the configuration and windows installation settings of the host machine.

Note that the program is not simply a registry editor: it works with other tools, including exported keys. It’s useful for seeing registry issues, sandboxing tools, and diagnostics. To your own computer's registry files, open a NTUSER.DAT system file but keep in mind that these are usually hidden by Windows to avoid accidental deletion.

I find it a good Program. Only one of its kind. You should know where your registry hives are.

TestDisk v7.1 Updated

  • 28MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 7 Jul 2019
  • Suggested by AlephX

TestDisk is a powerful drive and data recovery software that is designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again. This can be caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses, or of course human error (such as accidentally deleting your partition table).

The program is cross-platform with recovery tools for a long list file systems and includes the also-portable recovery software PhotoRec.

Note: Use with caution; it's recommended that you read the documentation and take your time. The software can easily made dramatic and difficult-to-reverse system modifications.

@juverax: given the nature of the program, I think I'd prefer to list non-beta tools in the entry, as they are presumably the most reliable. Still, good to see they're still making progress. I love this program.

WipeFile v3.2 Updated

billon on 31 May 2019
  • 302KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 31 May 2019

WipeFile is a secure file and folder deletion utility, overwriting data to prevent later recovery. Although most users will only require a standard 1-pass wipe, the program supports 14 different wipe methods, including high-security military standards. Higher security settings involve overwriting the data multiple times, which is dramatically slower.

For full drive wiping, the developer makes available an also portable WipeDisk program.

Writes settings to: Application Folder
Dependencies: Microsoft .NET Framework 4

This utility has simple and nice interface but I found a bug: it can't delete a file with asian name (eg: japanese). I got warning message: "Not all files / directories have been removed."

Ganamyde on 2013-09-23 13:27

Your right, it doesn't seem to support Unicode.
Sucks :/

mik.y on 2014-02-17 09:30

Yeah, unicode support must be one of the first features in such a app:/
