The programmer that made this program makes really reliable programs. I have about 10 different programs from NirSoft and they are each very useful and stable.

I'm eager to try this program to see if it can be used to unregister some mysterious DirectX plugins that show up in my music programs and possibly crash Reaper.

outskirter on 2013-02-18 00:14

Another excellent tool by NirSoft. I just used this utility to search for and destroy lots of junk left in the registry by McAfee ever since I uninstalled their software a couple of years back. It had been preinstalled on my netbook, and I hadn't bothered to clean up after it. Doing that manually would have been very time consuming.

@Magibon

I find that RegFromApp will only capture reg writes if the app your monitoring is actually doing the writing.

Let's say your monitoring an app/installer that creates a 'Working directory' e.g. %temp%/MonitoredApp and dumps some files that now write to the registry, these writes do not get captured because the monitored app is not doing the writing.

How I find RegFromApp useful:

1. In concert with Regshot: RegFromApp will only capture writes from the program not the system.

2. Capture and Export: I use Chromium web browser and pass args on the command line to keep all files in the app directory e.g. --user-data-dir=.\
The only problem is that when I "Make Chromium my Default Browser" it doesn't transfer the command line to the registry.

By starting Chromium from/within RegFromApp as an admin I can capture these reg entries and export for editing (search and replace) with a text editor and add the command line and merge back into the registry.

Not bad but can't work with Java.

ttttt11111 on 2013-09-17 17:14

I was worried that QtWeb was as dead as K-meleon. It hadn't been updated in more than a year. Thankfully, I was wrong.

QtWeb makes for a great secondary browser or portable browser, or even as a primary browser if you don't like bloatware. It's small and fits on a flash ram of at least 2GB, and contains all modern web technologies except java.

The lack of java isn't a problem for those who don't visit sites laden with that crap. It works with adobe flash, so youtube and other sites work fine.

The only downside to QtWeb is a lack of plugins or extensions. It would be nice to have an adblocker (especially for youtube) or other content blocker.

SYSTEM on 2016-09-26 18:03

I adjusted the entry for the fact that Qt is now a publicly traded company, no longer owned by Digia. (Funnily enough, it's traded in Nasdaq Helsinki, of all stock exchanges...)

"Copy or move the contents of $INSTDIR to a folder of your choice":
I just extracted using uniextract (2. try: 7zip, same result). There is no $INSTDIR, only $PLUGINSDIR, SOUNDS and files imgburn.exe, imgburnpreview.exe, readme.txt.
I suppose this altogether is equivalent to $INSTDIR ? At least it seems to work and afterwards the ini is 18KiB and it created dir "Log Files".

smaragdus on 2015-04-15 04:09

I confirm that *fang-face* is right- the extraction of the latest version of ImgBurn (2.5.8.0) with Universal Extractor version 1.6.1 or with 7-Zip version 9.20 doesn't create any '$INSTDIR' directory.

"Includes disc testing, verification (that files are exactly the same as those on the disc)"

Re verification: I'm not sure, but I think the program only verifies that the burned content is readable. I don't see the source drive active during this process.

I always verify with WinMerge after burning:

This is a great program. Allows you to copy one or all of the passwords and save to a text file. Steve313, did you load the wand.dat file through the options?

Just gave this a try and I'm quite impressed!

You can tell that the developer used Photoshop as an inspiration and it shows.

A shame that the developer has ceased work on it, but for a 4.79 MB app, it's way more than I initially expected.

Perhaps the best Photoshop clone you've never heard of. Recommended!

@jimdorey: I'm a little confused why we had a listing that this works with Win10 -- it really doesn't. When this version of the program stopped being developed, Win7 wasn't even out yet. Anyway, I recommend trying another software package for that OS. I've updated the entry.

@jimdorey: v5.3 works fine on my win 10 x64 using a 1080p screen resolution. Maybe you're using a high DPI screen/4k monitor, and only the last version (8.4, payware, but worth every penny) works fine in that case.
